Is Travis Hunter the next NFL superstar, or are we overhyping his college performance?

The Colorado Buffaloes is one lucky program to have two gems who are always in the limelight. When Shedeur Sanders takes the backseat it’s Travis Hunter who shines. But now the luck is on the Buffs’ side as both Hunter and Shedeur are turning heads. After the Buffs QB’s Hail Mary pass, time for Hunter to land some praise from the NFL legendary wide receiver.

The Buffs two-way threat must be on cloud nine as he landed praise from NFL bigshot who ended up comparing him with another NFL superstar. All these wins were enough for Hunter to lay his hands on Deion Sanders’ gift and call it ‘mine.’

The 2024 season has been all about Hunter. The Buffs’ two-way star played 124 of 126 total snaps during their face-off against the North Dakota State Bisons. He came up with seven receptions for 132 yards as well. In their feat against Colorado State Rams, the Buffs dual-threat scored twice along with an interception adding to the 28-9 win. While the Hunter fever is still on, Seattle Seahawks WR Terrell Owens was asked, “Do you think Travis Hunter could play both sides?”

Well, Owens seemed to be head over heels for the player as he came up with an “Absolutely!” Not just this, the NFL star even blasted at ex-San Francisco 49ers CB Richard Sherman to whom Hunter’s talents have not been convincing enough as a cornerback. Owens came up with a plea for his fellow NFL mate, “Don’t do that…Travis Hunter is that dude bro. He’s that guy.” Owens did not inch a bit before dropping the big claim, “For me, Travis is better than Charles Woodson.”

He did not just let his claim hang in the air. Instead, cited what made him think so. Last season when the Buffs faced TCU, Hunter wooed the CFB world with the way he intercepted the ball on goal life that came off-route. “You don’t find NFL DBs making those types of plays,” confidently claimed the ex-Seahawks. After reeling in all these acclaims, Hunter now eyes on Coach Prime’s gift.

Good times rolled for Deion Sanders it seems. On one hand, his Buffs are coming off with flying colors, and on the other, he received a parcel from none other than the NBA legend LeBron “King” James. And what did the gift box contain? A fresh new pair of special signature shoes. But poor Deion! Hunter is now the new owner of the kicks. The two-way star straight away went like, “Ohh, LeBron. Size 12. Appreciate you. GOAT, appreciate you. I know you sent these to Coach Prime, but he ain’t never heard of me though. I like to take shoes.”

And what stunned the fans? Coach Prime sweetly obliged Hunter’s request and he ended up giving away the shoes. This is the least that Deion could have done for his two-way star. After all, it was Hunter who kept his promise made to Shedeur. Before the game, the QB sought the two-way star’s help as Hunter revealed, “Shedeur told me to go out there and get the ball once we scored.”

While then he assured Deion Sanders’ son with “I got you,” Travis Hunter lived up to his role. He then revved up his tackling skills and made his defensive heroics shine sealing the win for the Buffs against the Bears.
