Can Travis Hunter's two-way brilliance outshine Ashton Jeanty's dominance for the Heisman this season?

Nobody can do what I do.” Travis Hunter has done it, folks. He has reached the peak. While some Buffs fan and CFB fans might think that the injury Hunter sustained against Kansas State would end up pushing his progress back, this dude has already left his mark. With what Hunter has managed to achieve in just 3 games (Rocky Mountain Showdown, Baylor, and the Knights), a new benchmark has been set for every player out there in the current season. What is that benchmark you ask?

Well, Colorado Buffaloes Football took to X to share that. “Travis Hunter claimed 2️⃣ first-team positions on The Associated Press midseason All-America team,” the official Buffs account mentioned on their post. Hunter has cut it for the First-Team offense and the First-Team defense on the AP mid-season poll and we all know why. It’s kind of funny to think that people had thought Travis Hunter wouldn’t be able to pull off his 2-way style in the NFL. The main argument was that playing that many snaps on that level wouldn’t be possible for Hunter to manage. Grabbing AP midseason All-American is the perfect clapback to everyone who had doubted our 2-way star.

Hunter’s glory days started when the Buffs hit the turf against the Rams. Hunter went into that game and was explosive from the start. Bringing in 2 touchdowns and grabbing 13 catches with 100 yards under his belt, Travis Hunter did something that has been done in the last 26 years. But that wasn’t the highlight of that game. It came when he managed to intercept a pass from the Rams quarterback. And you know what he did after intercepting it?

Ran the ball up by 30+ yards.

No one could stop him. This same momentum remained during the Baylor showdown. The Bears almost had a dub in the overtime but with Hunter’s game-changing fumble in the endzone, the Buffs took home a W. And Against UCF? Hunter managed to land another interception. Knights QB KJ Jefferson threw a pass, and it was Hunter who caught it. This moment gave rise to one of the most iconic photos in the current season.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Travis Hunter's two-way brilliance outshine Ashton Jeanty's dominance for the Heisman this season?

Have an interesting take?

Travis Hunter hitting the Heisman pose.

Yes, against Kansas State he could’ve done a he-k lot, but with that shoulder injury, he was called off for the entire second half. Shedeur Sanders had to keep the team in the game despite losing Hunter and having an o-line that kept crumbling like a wafer. The misfortune followed him into the Arizona showdown as well.

Hunter made a promise on Outta Pocket that he is gonna show everyone what he is capable of. However, this guy only managed to bring in around 50+ receptions during that game and was called off because of re-aggravating his shoulder injury. But keeping everything aside, you cannot sit there and say that Travis Hunter isn’t a “1 of 1”. This also brings us to the entire “Heisman discussion”.

The 2-way star has been on a lot of watchlists and many people have already put Hunter on their Heisman list. The question now is will he be able to break the QB dominance and win the trophy or injury problem, allow a different star to steal Hunter’s spotlight?

The Ashton Jeanty problem

1248 yards, 17 touchdowns. Highest for this season. No, I’m not talking about a quarterback, I’m talking about Broncos RB Ashton Jeanty. This guy has single-handedly managed to change the game for Boise State. There hasn’t been a single showdown where Jeanty hasn’t shown pure dominance.

Right now, if you go and look up the ESPN midseason Heisman voting list, Jeanty is sitting comfortably in the number 1 spot. With 66 total points, we understand why people have the hots for him. Hunter is on the 2nd with 52 points. Now, here is the kicker. It is fair to say that this season someone will be breaking the QB dominance but will it be Hunter or will it be Jeanty?

With few more games left on the schedule for the Buffs and a massive playoff-making opportunity coming this weekend, Hunter has a chance at breaking it to the top. We gonna have to wait and watch what he manages to get done when the Buffs hit the turf against the Bearcats.
