Does Travis Hunter deserve the Heisman after his game-winning moment? What do you think?

The noise around Travis Hunter is getting louder every week. From an NFL legend to a Buffs icon, everyone is calling for the two-way star to be voted for the Heisman Trophy. His performance against Baylor Bears, which included forcing a game-saving fumble has only lent credibility to that claim. His fiancee, Leanna Lenee who has been showing her support for Hunter and the Buffs in her own way this season, was the latest to join the bandwagon.

Hunter got a major boost in his Heisman ratings after what he managed to pull against the Bears during overtime. The score was 38-31, and the Bears had the football close to the goal line. Bear RB Dominic Richardson rushed in with the ball. As the Folsom collectively held its breath, Hunter stepped up and knocked the ball away, forcing a fumble on the one-yard line, in what was the last play of the game. The result was a touchback and a euphoric win for the Buffs.

The two-way star had also made an impact on the other side of the field. He caught seven passes for 130 yards and his 31-yard catch in the third quarter helped the Buffaloes to level the game at 24-24. The sensational win prompted frenzied reactions from the college football world and his fiancee, Leanna Lenee was not to be left behind.

After Hunter uploaded two photos of him celebrating the thrilling win on the field, Lenee was quick to drop a comment and wrote, “Heisman him NOW 😍.” In four games so far, Hunter has already caught 37 passes for 472 yards. He ranks sixth in the country in receiving yards and fifth in the country in receptions, so Lenee’s calls are not far off the mark. In fact, this is what former NFL player Chad ‘Ocho’ Johnson also believes.

During an episode of Nightcap on September 22, the former Bengals receiver Johnson said, “If Travis Hunter is not in the top spot to win the Heisman Trophy, they need to cancel all voting from now on.” This sentiment was echoed former Buffs player and current Fox Sports  Buffs insider Joel Klatt.

Talking on “The Herd” he said, “Travis Hunter – who’s, by the way, fabulous. If you were voting for The Heisman Trophy, you’d probably have to vote for him.” So how does Hunter stack up given the clamor for him to be voted for the Heisman Trophy?

Does Travis Hunter deserve the Heisman after his game-winning moment? What do you think?

Have an interesting take?

As of now, Hunter stands at a +1700 odds on the Heisman list. While Cam Ward from Miami Hurricanes still leads the list, it may not take long for Colorado’s 2-way star to catch up. In four games so far, Hunter ranks sixth in the FBS with 472 receiving yards and fifth with 37 receptions. He also has five TDs and 14 tackles to his name with that one forced fumble likely to play a big part.

If he can keep and even improve these numbers in the coming weeks, we can see the demands of his fiancee and others come true. Talking about his fiancee, Leanna Lenee, she has been bold and creative in her support for the Buffs and Hunter. Before the game against the Bears, she shared a GRWM video on TikTok, which gave a glimpse into her game-day outfit.

Lenee wore a custom-made white crop top carrying a Colorado and Nike logo on it. It also carried two Travis Hunter face pins as well. She paired it with baggy pants with the Buffs logo, name, and the #12 printed on them. She also pulled out a special outfit for the Buffs Rocky Mountain Showdown against Colorado State, sporting a white corset with the words, “COLORADO” written on it and paired with frilly denim shorts.

After the Buffs’ 28-9 win, when Travis Hunter posted a couple of stills from the game on Instagram, Lenee took to the comment section to write, “The best player in the 🌍😍.”  Well, we do know who Lenee wants to see win the Heisman Trophy. But will Hunter have competition from within the Buffs team for the prize?

Not just Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders also ran the show

Let’s not forget that Shedeur Sanders contribution in the Buffs’ dramatic win over the Bears. It was 31-24 on the scoreboard with seconds to go. Shedeur had to get something done. The first attempt was a Hail Mary towards Will Sheppard at the 5-yard line. Unfortunately, Sheppard dropped the football, and the touchdown wasn’t possible. With two seconds left on the clock, Shedeur and LaJohntay Wester pulled off a Folsom Field heist.

One final shot, and Shedeur didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. Another Hail Mary, which Wester managed to connect with. A sliding catch at the end zone brought the score to 31-31 and sent the game into overtime.

Micah Welch managed to land a 1-yard touchdown run to put Buffs ahead and the game was sealed with Hunter forcing the fumble. Well, along with Hunter, Sanders can stake a claim for the Heisman Trophy in the coming weeks. So the Buffs will wonder who would come out on top? Well, these are the problems they wouldn’t mind as they are now 3-1 and looking to improve on last season’s showing.
