Can Travis Hunter's return turn the tide for Colorado, or is the damage already done?

Will Travis Hunter be back for the season? Fans can’t get over this question after his right shoulder injury sidelined him in Week 7’s loss to Kansas State. The Buffs’ valuable star was only able to make three receptions for 26 yards and one tackle. This injury has also shrouded his Heisman future as his odds saw a significant drop immediately after the 31-28 loss. But as the chaos begins to settle, fortune smiles on Travis Hunter who is apparently still in good hands.

It’s not the end for Travis Hunter’s Heisman race because On3 national experts have come up with their predictions. On3 released their Heisman Trophy Watch after Week 8 on October 14 and Travis Hunter is still there despite his injury. He made it to the lists of three out of five experts’ predictions, including No. 1 by Andy Staples, No. 2 by Ari Wasserman, and No. 3 by Charles Power.

Travis Hunter entered Week 7’s game as the second favorite to win the Heisman Trophy with +300 odds with 561 yards and 46 receptions. But after the unforeseen injury which was initially suspected as season-ending, his Heisman odds experienced a drastic dip. As per FanDuel, he fell out of the Top 12 favorites with Shedeur Sanders taking up the last spot with +4500 odds.

But as Andy Staples noted, “An injury doesn’t automatically eliminate a player’s chance to win the Heisman Trophy, but Hunter’s ability to play nearly every snap is one of the major factors for his candidacy.” But as the report stated, Hunter’s return is going to be a crucial factor in determining his Heisman hopes. Hopefully, this isn’t a replay of Colorado’s plight last season when Hunter missed three games early and the Buffs were never able to cope with the losses.

Will Travis Hunter return for the Arizona game?

The injury that Travis Hunter suffered came after a hit from Kansas State safety Daniel Cobbs when he caught a 14-yard pass from Shedeur Sanders with a few minutes remaining in the second quarter. Now Hunter is one of the main forces leading Colorado forward this season. In addition to his offensive stats above, he also recorded 16 tackles, three pass breakups, two interceptions, and a forced fumble on defense.

Have an interesting take?

As of Travis Hunter’s return, nothing is clear as of now. When Deion Sanders was asked about the status of his injured players, he said, “I haven’t gotten an update on those particular young men. Hopefully, they can get back at it. But we’re not going to rush them. Their safety and their health is much more important than this game.” Colorado will hit the road for their next game against Arizona. We hope that we get to see familiar faces on the field.
