Seriously, what’s more annoying than seeing your fiancée get unfairly bashed and trolled? Especially when you’ve already tried to clear things up! That’s gotta be frustrating. Looks like Travis Hunter had enough of it. He finally made a bold move, and it seemed like the best way to handle the situation.

The two-way phenom shocked everyone by going ‘dark’ on Instagram. According to MLFootball’s most recent X post, “Travis Hunter, the Heisman Trophy winner, DEACTIVATED HIS INSTAGRAM account after his fiancé went viral multiple times and received serious hate.😳.” A huge move!

Lenee is truly fortunate to have someone who consistently stands up for her. And why not? She’s always got his back. Even with the crazy CFB-NIL world and the NFL on the horizon, his decision to deactivate social media says a lot about how he feels for her. Whether this massive move will cost this two-way star or not is still in the air, but it is unquestionably a hefty slap to those who attacked Lenee without cause.

For those who don’t know, following his victory in New York last Saturday, Hunter devoted the week to defending his fiancée, Lenee. She angered many on social media for a variety of reasons. Following Hunter’s trophy win, social media users criticized Lenee for not standing and cheering. Deion had to nudge her to stand, and suddenly everyone was judging her for being disrespectful.

But honestly, who hasn’t been lost in the moment? Maybe she was just caught up in the excitement and didn’t realize she should stand. People were way too quick to jump to conclusions. They were all over her for it, but Travis and Leanna tried their best to ignore the drama.

Is Travis Hunter's Instagram deactivation a bold stand for love or a risky career move?

Have an interesting take?

Things got so intense for Lenee that she had to make her Instagram private. She even posted a TikTok video of all the stories from the event to clear things up, but the hate didn’t stop. Hunter also found himself constantly defending her. He even appeared on a podcast and said, “So if you all want to keep talking, I’m not going to say nothing else about it.”

He talked about how he didn’t understand why he should break up with his fiancée just because the internet wanted him to. He said this whole thing has been “draining” for him and Lenee. He basically said, “Why would I break up with my girl because the Internet wants me to break up my girl? Just leave me alone.”

Hunter finally figured out a way to stop the haters. He realized his IG posts were basically giving them ammo to spread negativity. So, what’s the best plan? To take away their power to comment and turn off the comment section. On December 17th, he posted a picture of Lenee looking gorgeous in a yellow gown. And guess what? No comments. And now, look what happened!

The issue still stands, though, as to what kind of fresh criticism compelled Travis to take this audacious action. Are those consecutive viral moments the cause?

The reason behind Travis Hunter’s move

The day after Travis won, a video surfaced online that showed Lenee looking a little upset while Travis was posing for pics with fans at a meet-and-greet. No one expected her to become the center of attention at the Heisman ceremony, but for all the wrong reasons. Remember when Travis was taking photos with fans? Lenee was sitting nearby and didn’t look too happy. She even said, ‘Am I supposed to sit here all’day?’—that didn’t go over well. Then, on Sunday, another video blew up. It was an old music video from three years ago, and Lenee was in it, getting pretty cozy with a SoundCloud rapper.

You know, amidst all these, former NFL players, such as former Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson and former Cowboys WR Dez Bryant, even cautioned the CB/WR of the Buffs that his connection might harm his NFL career. Burleson even said, “It’s everybody else’s business that couple put it out there…can’t complain when they respond. That’s social media.” However, Hunter has stood by and protected his fiancée in the face of all that has transpired over the past 7 days.

He claims that since they have been dating for 2 years and he is aware of Lenee’s true nature, he will not listen to any criticism directed at her. At last, Hunter deactivated his Insta, indicating that he’s probably had enough of the hate that had been directed at Lenee. Well, let’s see if Travis hops on IG soon to clap back at the critics.
