Is Travis Hunter being unfairly overlooked, or is the freshman truly the better choice?

There is no doubt that Travis Hunter is a gem. The kid can slay as a WR and also as a cornerback. ESPN even put Hunter as No.1 in the Best College Football Player list. However, he is gonna leave for the NFL in 2025, and looks like Coach Prime won’t have to wait for a proper replacement. When Will Sheppard decided to commit to Colorado, there was major hype. Back on July 30th, we saw Sheppard land a solid touchdown catch during the preseason practice. And now we got him again during an interview, talking about a new prodigy at the camp.

On August 12th, Ryan Koenigsberg from DNVR decided to interview Sheppard and ask a good question regarding who stood out the most for the kid in the WR room. “To me? Imma have to go with Drelon,” Sheppard, the new X-receiver for Buffs, answered. Drelon has been slaying at practice. With a solid build and a playstyle that can make people second-guess if he is a freshman or not. Drelon Miller committed to the Buffs back in December. 247Sports marked that kid as the No.64 player on the national scene. Not only that, he is also considered No.13 WR nationally. “Just the relationship,” Drelon had said about why he picked the Buffs during an interview with ESPN. Looks like Hunter is gonna lose his spot as the elite WR for the Buffs.

Drelon marks the 10th player in the recruitment class of 2024. Earlier, Coach Prime had also brought in Jordan Seaton through the early transfer portal. In the scouting report by Greg Powers from Texas Football, Drelon has been called somewhat of a bully on the field. “He’s a bully on the field who is used in various ways to create mismatches,” Powers had noted. Not only that, Drelon is quite capable of making big plays because he is very fearless and focused and can easily navigate the mid-field. However, Drelon Miller ain’t the only one capable of replacing the void that Travis Hunter is gonna leave.

The star from Sooners

We got some major news back on August 1st. Apparently, Deion Sanders had sent an invitation to a WR from the Sooners. Cortez Mills, 4-star WR, took to X to post a note that he got from Coach Prime. “I would like to extend an offer of full a scholarship to attend the University of Colorado,” the note said. While Mills is already committed to Oklahoma, maybe we could see a change?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Travis Hunter being unfairly overlooked, or is the freshman truly the better choice?

Have an interesting take?

Because him on the team makes sense. The kid is already ranked as the No.15 WR in the entire 2025 class by On3. Not only that, he already has around 18 touchdowns and 1600+ yards under his belt. Let’s wait and watch how the rest of the year unfolds for Coach Prime and the new roster he’s planning.
