Travis Hunter has changed his legacy for ages to come in the game of football. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner was always a standout ever since he started playing at the age of 4-years-old. In fact, he comes from an athletic family where everyone, from his grandmother Shirley to his seven other siblings have interest in sports. While the support and competition were always immense, it was never a doubt that the Colorado star had to pave his own way.
Fast forward to today, he is one of the most touted football players out of Colorado and projected as the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft who owes it all to his father who he looked up to and his mother who made him move to Georgia. Through all the highs and lows of his life though, he had his family by his side. And now, as his younger brother – Trayvis Hunter – is on his way up, he is making sure to be there for him.
In fact, during his speech for the Heisman honor, he gave him a shoutout: “My brother where you at, Trayvis, my boy? Yes, sir, that’s my dawg, man. You know I do this for you, bro; we’ve been doing this for a long time. You was always next to me even the times I didn’t want to take you my mama made me take you bro (audience laughs) I’m doing this for you bro I’m doing this for all my siblings man.” While the love and support are all there, Travis is fixated on one philosophy for the 5-ft-6 WR of Effingham County High School that even he had to prove.

In a video posted by Overtime on their Instagram page, Boogie asked Travis, “Had their been any advice you have given him as he navigates these high-pressure moments and tries to make a name?”
As if he had the questionnaire with him already, the projected first-overall pick for the next Draft did not waste a second in answering. He said, “Nah, I don’t give him no advice ’cause I want him to go though it just like I had to go through it. I can tell you everything you need to know. But you got to go, face it by yourself. I can’t be there once it’s time to face it. Once he goes through it, he’ll come back and let me know what he needs help with. Once he tell me what he needs help with, I’ll make sure he gets the right help.”
Clearly, along with the talent, the love too runs in the family. And by love, we mean a little bit of tough love because this is not the first time that Travis has revealed his plans for his brother. The hustle and grind mindset, you see!
Back in December, the 21-year-old was asked why he does not endorse his younger brother, who was already on his way up as a high schooler, on his social media pages. Hunter minced no words and delivered his verdict straight. “Now, everybody gets to see my little brother. They ask me why I’m not posting him or nothing. Because ain’t nobody posted for me when I was younger.
“So he’s gonna get it just like I got it. When that time comes, I’m gonna help him figure out where he wants to go. Right now, I just try to tell him, I’m on a mission, Mission: Incomplete, until I can be able to sit down like ya’ll and not have to work another day in my life.”
Trayvis Hunter is a prospect of the 2027 class and plays for Effingham County, Springfield, Georgia. Standing at 5 foot 7 tall and weighing around 135 lbs; he also plays as a wide receiver. So far, the younger prodigy has got three offers from Georgia Southern, Tennessee State, and Jackson State. No doubt, he is making all the right moves to land those lucrative ‘power’ offers.

Have an interesting take?
In his sophomore year, Trayvis inked 496 yards 35 receptions, and 6 receiving touchdowns. According to MaxPreps, his stats for the last four games are 19 receptions, 331 yards, and 5 TDs. Despite his short stature, the 17-year-old is proving that size isn’t everything using his fast speed and agility. And his future is bright.
For context, he will feature and compete in the OT7 this year and is gearing up quite enthusiastically for the same. And no one is wishing the best for him the way Travis is, and not just for the OT7 but for his career.
In the same Overtime interview, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year said, “I just want him to grow. It’s about to be his junior year of high school, so, he got time to grow. But I want him to just grow each year, dominate, be a better player, being able to be coachable, understand the game more. Just continue to grow.”

Travis Hunter, who has garnered a fan following of his own through his heroics at Colorado playing for Coach Prime, could have easily promoted and hyped his younger brother. He has a whopping 1.9 million followers on his Instagram alone. But even he knows that media hype at this age could only ruin his game and distract him from giving his 100% on the field. Travis Hunter is just being a responsible elder sibling in that regard.
That may look harsh from our standpoint, but Hunter has achieved everything in college football. From garnering 1,258 receiving yards and 35 tackles in a season as a two-way star to being touted as the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Hunter has seen it all. He probably knows a thing or two about how his younger brother’s career trajectory should work since he did once say that there is more talent coming out of the Hunter can.
After winning his Heisman trophy, Travis gave credit to his father for his interest in football as he sat with Good Morning America. At the same time, he also mentioned that even with him moving into the NFL, the Hunter name will continue to shine at the collegiate level. And no, he wasn’t talking about himself. “I looked up to my dad. He was the guy I looked up to when I went to play football when I was little. Going to his little league football there. Saw him make touchdowns and go out there just being reckless and dumb down there on the field. I just had to, you know, show everybody what I can do.
“Where it comes from, it comes from our family. I was just thankful and happy to be his first son, his older son to go out there and show the world that we got more to come after me.”
Trayvis’s father too has now officially broken his social media silence to cheer for his younger son.
Travis Hunter’s father breaks the silence for his younger son Trayvis
We all know about the life Travis Hunter and his siblings grew up in and the sacrifices his father, Hunter Sr., made to make his children’s dreams true. Hunter Sr. himself wanted to play football and was even slated to join a JUCO roster in Kansas after his graduation from Boynton Beach High School. But family responsibilities pushed the man to sacrifice his dream. Nevertheless, he inculcated that dream in his eldest son, Travis, and we all know the rest of the story. And now he is doing the same for his younger son Trayvis.

More importantly, he is making sure that he celebrates his kids with every given opportunity. Hence, after more than 3 months of social media silence, Hunter Sr. has shared a message for Trayvis on his 17th birthday.
“Happy 17th birthday to my son Trayvis I love u mane man I love u son enjoy ur day….” Hunter Sr. posted a video of his younger son running drills and catching passes on the run. At first glance, he certainly looks like he has a lot of potential. Trayvis then reverted the message back and reposted the story, saying, “Love you, pop.”

Surely, Hunter Sr.’s support will push both of his sons to greater glory, with one trying to achieve stardom in the NFL and the other following the footsteps of his elder brother in college football.
