Is Travis Hunter the missing piece Jerry Jones needs for the Cowboys' Super Bowl dreams?

Travis Hunter secured the game-winning drive in Colorado’s last OT thriller win against Baylor. He not only showcased his incredible offensive talent with seven catches for 130 yards. But his defensive abilities shone in his last play where he forced a fumble on the goal line in overtime for a 38-31 victory.

The performance of the highly-touted two-way Buffs player won the interest of so many people including NFL Draft scout Dalton Miller who endorsed Hunter as a Cowboy in an X post on September 23. The post reads, “Travis Hunter… YOU are a Dallas Cowboy.” Back when the season opened, Travis Hunter was one among the three-star NCAA players who would be the perfect addition to the Cowboys’ roster, especially filling the team’s CB and WR gap.

While drafting Travis Hunter would be a steal for Jerry Jones, it’s an unlikely scenario because Hunter is projected as a top-5 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and the Cowboys aren’t expected to fall to the bottom of the ranks this season. As far as the Cowboys go, Shedeur Sanders is also a potential pick as former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum told ESPN’s Get Up in August, “There’s a better chance, in my opinion, that Shedeur Sanders could be the quarterback next year than Dak Prescott at this point.”

Given Deion Sanders’ ties with Jerry Jones, it wouldn’t be surprising to see at least one Buff drafted by the Cowboys. Even former Cowboys WR Dez Bryant lauded Deion Sanders and Colorado after their epic game saying, “THEY GOING TO HATE THIS 1 PRIME! Deion Sanders. Great team win!” But he also gave a special shoutout to Travis Hunter saying, “Travis Hunter got to be the front runner for the Heisman.” Unsurprisingly, Bryant isn’t the only one pushing Hunter’s odds for the Heisman Trophy.

Travis Hunter’s race for the Heisman takes the lead

Travis Hunter is the Heisman Trophy winner! At least that’s what the bulk of social media is saying after the Baylor game. The Paul Hornung Award winner entered the 2024 season with +1500 odds for the Heisman award. After falling to +3500 following the Nebraska fall, his stellar season performance in Week 4 placed him at great heights in the Heisman race at +2500 as the 10th best on BetMGM
