Home/College Football

First 2-way player to win a Heisman since 1977. This alone speaks volumes about how good Travis Hunter is. Last night, the Heisman winner was announced and if you check the voting stats, Travis Hunter won by a landslide. 2231 points on the board, more than twice the numbers other QBs managed to pull. Man, everyone knew from the start that this was his HE12MAN. But you know the best part about that night? When Travis Hunter took that award, and during his speech about his father, he completely broke down. That moment was raw and unfiltered, and we finally know why he cried so hard.

Back on Good Morning America, Hunter was asked, “Can we talk about your dad? Because you got so emotional talking about him.” Colorado’s 2-way start had a very good answer. “I looked up to my dad. He was a guy I looked up to when I wanted to play football, when I was little, you know,” Hunter pointed out. Watching Travis Hunter Sr. score touchdowns to being reckless on the field. That is the childhood Hunter had spent. And when it came down to the Heisman speech, all Hunter wanted to do was, “Show everybody what I can do, where it comes from. It comes from my family.”

This moment was more than special. In his speech, Hunter thanked his father for all that he had done for him. You have no idea the amount of sacrifices Hunter Sr. made for his kids. This guy was all set to go play in Dodge, Kansas, but having 2 children meant he had to make a choice. He chose his kids over football, and look where it landed his oldest son.

People also talked about why Hunter Sr. couldn’t make it to the award ceremony, and he had a valid reason for it. During an interview, Hunter Sr. mentioned, “I want to be there when he gets married and when he gets drafted. I’m going to watch this from home.” The father will be there next to him soon during his most important moments.

Yes, the Heisman was important, but he wanted to give his son the space he needed. The drafts? Yeah, Hunter Sr. will be there to watch his son become the potential No.1 WR pick this season. But hey, you know one funny thing? The Heisman win really did prove that Hunter is a very important part of the entire Sanders family.
