The Colorado Buffs two-way player Travis Hunter suffered a shoulder injury last week while playing against Kansas State, bringing his Heisman Trophy aspirations to the brink of extinction. But it turns out that’s not the case as he is going to return for the Buffs’ next game against Arizona. But that injury was a big turf for Travis, as he saw a major dip in his Heisman rankings with +1500 odds. Is this the reason Travis is trying hard to place himself over every other player in the Heisman race? Whatever the case, Travis’ desperation is turning into a troll for him.
Today an insider took to X to share his opinion, giving Travis Hunter a reality check on his recent remarks on being a better player and deserving contender for the Heisman Trophy than Boise State star running back Ashton Jeanty. Recently in Outta Pocket with RG3 podcast, Travis claimed that he should win the Heisman against Jeanty this year, saying, “He had 95 carries for 1,000 yards; if I had 95 catches, how many yards do you think I’d have?” This statement didn’t gel well with the actual season statistics of the two players.

Adding to it, the insider took a shot at Travis Hunter for making such remarks on Ashton Jeanty, saying, “Travis Hunter needs to shut the h–l up. There’s no arguing this.” After making a comparison of their on-field stats, the insider revealed that Travis has 170 yards after catch, while Ashton has 914 yards after contact. It seems that Travis Hunter has made quite delusional claims without any supporting evidence.
Travis Hunter’s desire to win the Heisman is turning into a weird obsession. It’s not like Travis Hunter has not showcased a Heisman-worthy performance in the season. In offense, he has scored 57 receptions for 721 yards with five touchdowns, and in defense, he had 25 tackles with four receptions and five pass breakups, which is more than enough to represent him as a top Heisman contender. But him calling out other players is something unusual.

Have an interesting take?
Travis Hunter was expected to face a harsh reality check for his comments about Ashton Jeanty, especially considering Jeanty’s status as the leading Heisman contender with +170 odds. Moreover, Travis not only questioned Ashton’s abilities but also pointed out that he had not done anything unusual in the ongoing season. In the same Outta Pocket podcast, Travis said, “I don’t know who’s there. I mean, y’all see Ashton Jeanty, but it’s not like we haven’t seen a running back; that’s good.”
Without a doubt, there are definitely many players who are more remarkable than Jeanty. However, he has truly done an exceptional job this season. Leading the scoreboard, he has secured an impressive 1248 rushing yards with 17 touchdowns, all on just 126 carries. Now you know why Travis is in a tough spot with his recent statement. It is surprising to see a player like Travis Hunter doubting a fellow contender’s abilities, which doesn’t look like a good sportsman sign for him.
