Travis Hunter's end zone tribute to Rich Homie Quan—Is this the ultimate way to honor a legend?

With Travis Hunter around, no show is ever dull! While touchdown dances are a common sight for CFB fans, the Colorado Buffaloes dual-threat had to make it special. As the Buffs hit the Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins against their in-state rivals Colorado State Rams on September 14, Hunter stole the show. And guess what? The Buffs’ two-way star soars to the spotlight not only by catching a touchdown but also by making the celebration not only about himself. Hunter dedicated his accomplishment to none other than the late rapper Rich Homie Quan. This beautiful and touching gesture will surely give him some praise from the fans. It also seems he is very much into the world of rapping and has even landed in Lil Wayne’s good books.

After the mishap against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Buffs stands seemed to be running low in spirit. With Colorado State Rams coming off as stronger than the previous season, the Buffs fans were ready for yet another bad luck bonanza. But no! Thanks to Hunter who ensured to gift the fans a good night’s sleep. Well, the two-way star came up with a move that would be etched in the memory of college fans forever. He pulled off a Rich Homie Quan dance on the gridiron leaving the spectators emotional.

The rapper has gone too soon at the age of 33. The “Type of Way” star was confirmed dead on September 5. Somehow it had touched Hunter deep in his heart and the dual-threat had been waiting for the Big Day to dedicate his victory to the late legend. And as planned, when he revved up the game by turning an interception into a touchdown with only 10 minutes and 11 seconds left in Q3, Hunter caught hold of the opportunity to pay the long-awaited tribute.

Till now, the Buffs’ two-way star had been known for his craze about Lil Wayne who then gave him a huge shout-out. Going by the viral clip, the “Lollipop” star was head over heels for Hunter’s feat against Bison, “T Hunter, Travis Hunter that they talking about a unicorn. Nah Nah, You gotta come up with a word we ain’t said before, like that boy is something we ain’t seen before.” It was time for him to shift his focus and acknowledge Rich Homie Quan’s legacy whose demise left the CFB world with an irreplaceable void.

Rich Homie Quan’s unexpected football fame

Much before Hunter, it was Alabama Crimson Tide star Jalen Milroe who made his performance all about the late rapper. During their big face-off against USF Bulls, it did not take long for Kalen DeBoer’s QB to grab the spotlight. Milroe juked the USF defenders and scored a 10-yard rushing touchdown that in turn gave Crimson Tide the 7-3 lead. Milroe just added a special touch to the score by topping it with Rich Homie Quan’s signature moves.

Have an interesting take?

You must be wondering what made the rapper so popular in the world of football. Even though it has nothing to do with college football, it’s rather the NFL world that would forever be indebted to the Atlanta rapper. The platinum-selling rapper was used in Michigan State’s post-game celebrations back in 2013 after their historic 13-1 season.

The Rich Homie Quan craze had been so vivid that the program flew him to MSU’s 2014 Rose Bowl win over Stanford. MSU’s ex-coach between 2007 and 2019, Mark Dantonio tweeted a tribute to the fallen star, “RIP ⁦@RichHomieQuan Special Time, Special Place with Special People.” His legacy has transcended time with college football stars dropping their mixtape in his honor.
