Hunter vs. Beck: Who truly deserves the All-American spotlight this season?

Travis Hunter doesn’t care about personal success! For him, it’s all about the team! Earlier in August, the Associated Press revealed its preseason All-America teams which include the Buffs’ two-way weapon. He lived this glorious hype with his outstanding performance at Colorado’s season opener against FCS powerhouse North Dakota State.

In the matchup against NDSU, Travis Hunter scored three of four touchdowns with the last one-handed 3-yard TD catch caught by his fingertips. This also earned him the name of “The Glitch” in college football. But titles aren’t what Hunter is hunting for right now, it’s the wins for the glory of the team.

In the new YouTube video on The Travis Hunter Show on September 5, he was asked his thoughts about being on the AP preseason All-American team with Georgia’s star Carson Beck. But Hunter evaded the spotlight saying, “Like I said, I don’t pay attention to none of that stuff… Personal stuff is cool but I gotta go out there, win, be there for my team, be the best player for my team.”

Not every player can resist the lure of personal glory that comes with fame. But Travis Hunter’s dedication for his team signifies that he has the true spirit of sportsmanship. Following their 31-26 victory against NDSU, the two-way star admitted that he had “no personal goals” despite his remarkable performance securing three TDs. But the backstory behind Hunter’s third touchdown which became a popular headline is quite interesting.

Travis Hunter fulfilled Shedeur Sanders’ challenge

In a behind-the-scenes revelation, Travis Hunter got a little push from Shedeur Sanders before the incredible play happened. Before the players got into position, the Buffs QB was upset at Hunter for missing out a catch. He said, “It’s funny because [Shedeur] got on me for not catching the one that we called the flag because I told him to throw me the ball no matter what… So that one, I just knew I had to catch the ball. I had no other choice, no other option so whatever I had to do to get the ball, I was going to get it.”

This much dedication and determination for the team, the enthusiasm to stick by his teammates through ups and downs! If Travis Hunter isn’t the definition of a true sportsman, then what is? If he maintains this positivity and loyalty for his team and continues to play with similar athleticism like the season opener, Colorado could have a change of luck from last season.
