Flipping teams through the transfer portal has become the new normal in college football. Thanks to the crazy NIL deals and how everyone—players, coaches, and even the fans—now sees the game, veterans are constantly on the move. Players chase bigger and better opportunities, even if it means jumping ship after just one season. They show up, give it a shot, and if things don’t click right away, they’re outta there and looking for a new home in the blink of an eye.
It’s wild, frustrating, but also kind of exciting. And sticking to the script, Amari Niblack, the former Alabama star who had a rocky year at Texas, is already figuring out his next move.

Texas A&M has been on a journey of rearranging their offense and eyes a former arch-nemesis athlete. Yes, Amari Niblack had a questionable exit from the Texas Longhorns recently after a disappointing season in 2024, but the core memory of his breakout collegiate career lives in every fan’s head rent-free.
With the Alabama Crimson Tide, Niblack mounted a career-high 20 catches for 327 yards. In the orange jersey, he couldn’t do much, capping off the season with five catches for 33 yards. Now, to prove that his Bama stint was not just a fluke, he’s finding another home. The Aggies stand on the frontline of swooping him in.
”Have they done enough in terms of improving this pass catcher room going into 2025? It became very clear very early on in this transfer portal window that this was a position group that Texas A&M wanted to address. When you go back in 2024, it was solid, but I don’t think it was great,” the ROC boys football host said. On Saturday, Texas A&M will host the Florida native who just came out from their bitter rival. Mike Elko will walk the sea and mountains to leave a lasting impression on his mind. But they are not just playing a mind game. They have done the work part as well.
”You look at the goal for Texas A&M as a program: hey, we want to compete for SEC championships and national championships. I don’t think the pass catcher room was there in 2024. I’ve been very vocal that I like the process in terms of what Texas A&M has been done in the transfer portal,” the analyst continued. Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies have been busy building a strong pass catcher room for quarterback Marcel Reed heading into the 2025 season. With some questions surrounding Micah Hudson, it looks like A&M might still be looking for more receivers. And as for tight end Amari Niblack?
He’s definitely got his work cut out for him in the transfer portal. It won’t be easy for him to find the perfect fit. He’ll have to compete for targets at his new school. So, what’s he looking for in his next team?
Amari Niblack should take his portal decision with a clear head
Prized Texas tight end Amari Niblack has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 spilled the news. Pete Nakos was the first to confirm the news after reports surfaced about Niblack’s plans to enter. Niblack suited up in nine games for Texas in 2024, catching five passes for 33 yards. He joined the Longhorns program after starting his career at Alabama.

Niblack had an exceptionally short season. He left Alabama even after an enthralling season just because of the thin playtime. But the Longhorns turned out even worse. He didn’t get the credit he deserved. Also, there can be a counterargument that says Niblack fell short of living up to the standard. He was supposed to help bridge the gap in production left by Sanders’ departure. But he couldn’t get there and ended up somewhere after Gunnar Helm on the depth chart.
In his new portal move, the kid would be wise to pick a stable program where we can be granted more time and energy and also need to keep his loopholes in check.
The loss of Ja’Tavion Sanders to the NFL was pretty much upsetting to Steve Sarkisian and Tight Ends Coach Jeff Banks at the end of the 2023 season. They let Niblack play for one year and then got to the point that he was not someone they were looking for. So, the transfer portal has become quite inevitable. Now, just tighten your belts and let the guy land wherever he deems best.
