Jared Curtis’ recruitment saga has been nothing short of a thrilling daily soap opera episode. Having committed to the Georgia Bulldogs in March last year, the five-star QB decommitted just six months later—initiating a wild guessing game that’s still ongoing. However, looks like the rising star is finally making a move as per some notable insiders. But before we get to that…

Let’s answer a few questions: What’s all the hype about? Well, Curtis—a Nashville Christian School QB—has made a mark everywhere it matters. We’re talking about throwing for 2,522 yards and 25 touchdowns with nine interceptions in his sophomore season. He was also named as the 2024 Gatorade Tennessee Football Player of the Year, after leading his team to a staggering 13-1 record and a state title, throwing for 2,830 yards and 40 touchdowns while also rushing for 637 yards and an additional 18 scores, in 14 games. So, of course, Smart was making the smartest decision by pursuing him.

But what exactly did the coach even do to make his future star walk back on his words? Well, nothing really. As per Curtis’ own confession, it seemed like a classic case of FOMO. In a social media statement where he announced the news, Curtis wrote, “This morning I spoke with Coach Smart and Coach Bobo and let them know that I still love Georgia, but would like to take some more time to explore all my options so I can make the best, most informed decision for my future. I let them know it just doesn’t seem right or fair to stay committed while checking out other programs. I want people to know where I stand and I’ve learned that making big decisions takes time.”

Keep in mind that it’s not like he was putting his Bulldogs aspirations away totally. And in the race to recruit him, Georgia again stands as a major contender, as the team is still one of his top choices. Sounds complicated, right? Well, it is what it is. But, as expected, multiple suitors capitalized on the situation with lofty offers including Oregon, Alabama, South Carolina, Auburn, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, USC, Florida State, his home-state school Tennessee, and Oregon, among others.

However, as the time to make a final decision draws near, Curtis’ list has seen a considerable downsize. As per an update from last month, the youngster was already down to six schools, before insiders provided a final verdict (which we’ll talk about later). Talking to On3’s Football Recruiting Social Media Expert, Hayes Fawcett, Curtis’ contenders have reportedly come down to Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Auburn and Ohio State. Now add to that the latest rumor, and things have gotten a lot more tense for Kirby Smart…

On February 13, On3’s Josh Newberg and Steve Wiltfong (who serves as the media platform’s VP of Recruiting and Transfer Portal) sat down for a conversation on The Inside Scoop. Naturally, the discussion started with the No. 1 QB prospect. “Bill Belichick went to his house. He has a visit to North Carolina on the itinerary for March, same with Georgia. But going into spring, I like where the Oregon Ducks stand. Since he decommitted from Georgia, he tells me that his relationship with Dan Lanning, [Ducks offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach] Will Stein and Oregon has gotten better and better,” Wiltfong theorized, before adding:

“He’s been out to Eugene twice. He recently told me, ‘I like Oregon a lot.’…So I am predicting him to land with Oregon. They already have the nation’s number one ranked recruiting class per the On3 industry, and I think as it stands right now, they are setting the tone for Jared Curtis. And Curtis has been to his top schools numerous times. He has official visits set for June to Oregon, Georgia and South Carolina. But with all the head coaches that came and visited him this past month and all the conversations he’s having with his family…I wouldn’t be surprised if he came off the board sooner rather than later and started helping build a class.”

I think Oregon is just the program that has his attention right now with the season that they had the way they’re building it up. His connection with Will Stein, Dan Lanning, and the coaching staff, they have the momentum right now in this recruitment,” Wiltfong later added, highlighting that it’s not just a team’s records, but the connections that matter for a player to choose their second home.

If Jared Curtis ends up signing with the Oregon Ducks, he will join a quarterback room led by Dante Moore and Akili Smith Jr. Moore is supposed to take the reins of the offense for the 2025 season as a starter after Dillon Gabriel’s departure. He has gained enough experience working behind Gabriel throughout the past season, and now it’s time for him to shine.

As for the 2026 recruiting class, Oregon bagged a commitment from 4-star quarterback Jonas Williams. If Curtis slides in, it will invite another grilling QB competition at Eugene.

Well, despite having some edge, the battle won’t be an easy win for the recruitment monster Dan Lanning. Coaches out there are even adapting illicit methods to get their job done. However, amidst the constant scrutiny by the top-tier schools. Curtis faced a significant blow in his resume.

Jared Curtis’ NIL profile showcases a massive dissonance

Jared Curtis has been lured by the coaches, not for nothing. He has that element in him that can easily wow the fans or veterans and coaches, making them crave to get a piece.

Curtis has been an excellent pocket passer who is not afraid to dial up deep and can easily tap into plenty of vertical shots. Apart from the numbers that already speak for itself, the QB’s athleticism, maturity, and poise under pressure made him an absolutely unforgettable watch on the films. So, you can no way blame the coaches for making a desperate attempt to swoop him in. He is an asset of his own.

Apart from Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, and Oregon, UNC Tar Heels’ new head coach, Bill Belichick, also took great notice of the supremely talented kid and didn’t waste any time extending him an offer. But to everyone’s surprise, he rejected an offer to come to Chapel Hill and join forces with the eight Super Bowl title-winning coach/NFL GOAT.

The upshot? Well, just shortly after Curtis let go of the UNC offer, his NIL profile has showcased a sharp decline from 3.5 million to 2.7 million. Drawing certain parallels between both incidents might not be wise, but either way, Curtis’ NIL degradation can turn the page of his unprecedented hype real soon if it keeps on getting bad.
