So, Quinn Ewers said he was heading to the NFL, right? Well… not so fast. Before Texas’ season ended with a rough 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the CFP quarterfinals, the Longhorns QB confidently told ESPN he planned to play in the NFL next year. But he also threw in a casual “we’ll see” that left the door wide open for, well, everything we’re hearing now. Rumors are swirling about a $6 million Big Ten offer and three powerhouse schools rolling out the red carpet if he decides to transfer. Suddenly, the NFL doesn’t seem like the only shiny option on Ewers’ table.
According to NFL Rookie Watch, if Quinn Ewers transfers, staff at Ohio State, Alabama, and Ole Miss are reportedly “very interested in him.” On top of that, Ewers is also allegedly “heavily considering” staying in college football for the upcoming season instead of heading to the NFL Draft following his defeat by Ohio State. As of now, “The Texas QB may not be entering the NFL Draft so soon 😳,” wrote the X post.

According to a transfer site story, Ewers is said to “be open” to returning to OSU. That is after all where his football career started. See, the fourth-year senior skipped his final year of high school at Southlake Carroll and started his career at Ohio State. With Friday’s defeat, he now has a 27-9 record overall in his Longhorns career, having played sparingly for the Buckeyes. But a ‘$4 million’ and ‘$6 million’ deal from an unnamed Big Ten institution is apparently already on the table. The key question now is whether or not the quarterback has entered the transfer site.
Ewers added that he had not heard any reports that he might leave Texas in exchange for a higher salary offer from another university. “Haven’t even paid attention to it. I’m not really sure what’s going on,” Quinn Ewers remarked. But the best quarterback in Texas isn’t able to enter the NFL Draft?

Quinn Ewers has produced memorable victories at Michigan this season and Alabama in 2023. Ewers concluded the season with six picks in his final five appearances, indicating some inconsistency and injury problems in both 2023 and 2024. He threw 29 touchdown passes in 2024, earning him a spot on the SEC’s second team.
In addition, the game against OSU was his 36th career start. He has now gone 21-5 over the last two seasons, taking Texas to the CFP semifinals each time. On Friday night, he completed 23 of 39 passes for 283 yards and two TDs. He had 66 touchdowns, 8,845 passing yards, and a 65.1% completion rate going into the contest.
According to reports, many NFL scouts currently think that Ewers would “greatly benefit” from another year of college. However, one general manager told ESPN that he believes Ewers will be selected in the top 100. But he acknowledged that there is a “wild variance” within his scouting department over Ewers’ NFL projection, despite the fact that he projects as a contentious talent in this following selection.

Moreover, according to another NFL official, Ewers is now regarded as being below the top 100. He still has the opportunity to improve himself in the process by training out for coaching staff and engaging in chalk talk. Ewers will benefit from playing for Steve Sarkisian for 3 seasons. Because of Sarkisian’s NFL background and the fact that he oversees a more intricate system than most CFB coaches. Let’s see if the quarterback decides to play one more season for CFB or enter the NFL Draft.
