The Buffs fans are so in for a treat and that too a month before Halloween! This time, the trick has been pulled by a superstar Colorado player. Who, you ask? Well, a player who impressed Coach Prime Deion Sanders so much that even the legendary coach has agreed that the player is already better than him at this stage in his career. Yes, it’s Colorado’s own Travis Hunter. The 21-year-old has featured on the Sporting News 2024 Preseason All-American First Team offense list.
Moreover, USA TODAY Sports also dropped its preseason college football All-American teams on Monday, and guess what? Travis Hunter, not once but made the cut on the list twice! Hunter was a consensus All-American last year and is already “murdering it” this season. He snagged first-team all-purpose honors and landed a spot as a second-team cornerback. Pretty cool, right? What’s even cooler is that no one else got mentioned twice as Hunter did!
The fans already have high hopes and dreams for Sanders’ Colorado, especially with Shedeur in the quarterback room and, of course, dual-threat Travis on the roster. “13-0 and National Championship“, a fan commented. While it won’t exactly be a cakewalk for the Buffs to win all 13 games and secure the conference title, especially with the given schedule. But fans have faith in Deion’s Buffs roster and Travis. ESPN has also featured Travis Hunter as their all-purpose player. While that’s absolutely impressive, it’s no surprise for a player like Travis.

One of the Buffs’ fans reacted to the news by replying, “Good stuff”. And it’s “good stuff” indeed, and a generational talent. Hunter had played the most snaps in NCAA Division I football, putting on a show of his crazy endurance and versatility. Another fan has already put his bet on Hunter as the potential Heisman candidate—“He is currently +2800 to win the heisman at @bookmaker_eu”.
Although some fans didn’t really feel as if all the hype around Hunter was worth it, they wrote: “3 wins maybe“. However, with his remarkable contributions on both sides, with fifty-seven receptions for 721 yards and five touchdowns on offense, along with thirty tackles and 3 interceptions on defense, the Paul Hornung Award recipient is “gonna absolutely MURDER it this year”, pointed out an excited Buffs’ fan, disregarding the “3 wins” prediction.
The Buffs have a lot of riding on Travis Hunter
The potential Heisman candidate entering his third season, Hunter is undoubtedly one of the most dynamic players in the history of Buffs football. While he’s an “elite receiver” and an “elite corner,” Hunter is just superlative as a receiver, and even the NFL Network draft experts agree on that, bless his stupendously fine movements. That’s not just it. Travis has bulked up 17 pounds of muscle this season, now standing at 185 pounds. “He (Hunter) is now faster, leaner, but bigger looking…designed to take hits,” as pointed out by analyst Uncle Neely on Thee Pregame.

With an average of 115 plays per game, Hunter had shown that he was a different beast on the field. Mind you, he put up that stat despite missing out on three-and-a-half games due to his lacerated liver. Travis Hunter is in another league! Not only did he snag consensus first-team All-American honors on the field, but he also crushed it in the classroom, becoming just the second player in CU history to pull off that combo, joining Joe Romig from way back in ’60 and ’61. Even on the academic side, this dude is no slouch either. He got first-team Academic All-American, made the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll, and earned spots on the All-NFF Colorado Academic Team. Oh, and did we mention he scored a perfect 4.0 GPA last fall? Yeah, he’s truly “murdering it” all around!
Besides Travis Hunter, Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II, Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan also made it to ESPN’s first team. Texas Tech’s RB Tahj Brooks, Utah’s TE Brant Kuithe, and Cincinnati’s guard Luke Kandra all landed spots on the second team. It’s only a matter of days until we see how Hunter competes against the other first-team players.
