Home/College Football

Dan Lanning might be in hot water. The Oregon Ducks have already locked in 10 elite recruits. And arguably, this team is at the top of the 2026 recruiting class. Back in August 2024, 6-foot-6 4-star OT Kodi Greene committed to Lanning and the Ducks, which gave them a massive boost. Snagging a powerhouse like Greene felt like a huge win. But right now? Things aren’t looking so great for Oregon.

Last year, Kodi Greene made it clear that Oregon felt like home, and he wasn’t leaving his new family without a fight. In an interview with On3, he even said, “It would be extremely tough for another program to flip me from Oregon, and I don’t see it happening.” Yeah, he said it. But now? College football recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong just dropped a bombshell on the On3 Recruits podcast, and Oregon fans are reeling.

Yesterday on the On3 podcast, Steve Wiltfong was asked if any team had a shot at flipping this decision of Greene. His response was enough to send Oregon fans, especially Dan Lanning, into panic. Wiltfong acknowledged Greene’s commitment to Oregon but reminded everyone that nothing is set in stone until signing day. Then came the real shocker. “But the school that’s gonna have the best shot to do it is Texas,” Steve said. And just when fans thought it couldn’t get worse, he dropped it. Steve added, “Texas offered last month. He (Kodi Greene) is excited about the opportunity. He has set an official visit to Texas for the weekend of June 13.”

Oh boy! If this budding chemistry between Kodi Greene and Texas actually clicks, the Longhorns could land a match-winner. And in the meantime, Oregon will lose one of its best defensive weapons. But hold up, don’t hit the panic button just yet. Wiltfong also revealed something that might be the ultimate deciding factor. “He’ll be at Oregon the weekend of June 6. So Dan Lanning and company will be working to get that official visit shut down,” he said.

Uh, boy! If this growing chemistry really works out, then it will be very hard to stop Texas Longhorns, and at the same time, Oregon Ducks will lose one of their best defenders. But wait, hold your horses. Witfong also said something that might be the only way that is going be a deciding factor between Texas and Greene. Witfong said, “He’ll be at Oregon the weekend of June 6. So Dan Lanning and company will be working to get that official visit shut down.” Man, the stakes just got real. This recruiting battle is about to go down to the wire. But here’s the real question: why is Kodi Greene such a big deal for Texas?

Can Oregon Ducks hold onto Kodi Greene, or will Texas steal their prized recruit?

Have an interesting take?

Why are Texas Longhorns determined to land Kodi Greene?

The Longhorns’ interest in Kodi Greene? Yeah, that’s a no-brainer. He’s ranked as the No. 5 offensive tackle in the 2026 class by 247Sports and is projected to be a multi-year starter before heading to the Big Men’s League. Greene has even drawn comparisons to former Oregon lineman Josh Conerly Jr., who declared for the 2025 NFL Draft this offseason. Greene has always been a Top 50 recruit, but over the past year, his stock has exponentially skyrocketed.

Now, as Texas looks for new talents in its 2026 class, Greene is a priority. If the Longhorns can get him, their offensive line would be a beast on the ground. Their offensive line already has Max Wright, Felix Ojo, and Samuel Roseborough will get a massive upgrade. Greene would be the perfect piece to complete the puzzle.

Over the next few months, Greene’s the guy that you should watch. He is certainly going to be a deadly weapon for any team in the league. The Longhorns aren’t out of this race just yet, and if they pull this off, their 2026 class could be downright scary. What’s your take on that?
