The Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs might be the biggest of foes but when it comes to winning formula they walk on the same path. Maybe that’s what makes the contention even more intense. Other than the fans, if there is anyone who can make the most out of this rivalry, it’s none other than Coach Prime.
And what’s the deciding factor here? The mission of going door to door of high schools to reel in fresh talent. But the Colorado Buffaloes HC has never been part of that recruitment strategy which he considers as a gimmick.

It’s time to dissect Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns and Kirby Smart’s Dawgs! Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman duo did the honors on the On3 podcast. This season it’s the Bulldogs who have one of the biggest offensive lines while Sark’s O-line is the second-best in the country. But what’s the X-factor that makes them stand out? The podcast co-host pinpointed the secret code of the winning formula, “So the Texas and Georgia offensive lines all 10 starters were recruited out of high school by these programs.”
Special mention goes to Georgia OL Xavier Truss who has been the highest rated recruit. For where Texas and Georgia are today, the credit definitely goes to their respective coaches. But more than that it’s their persistent belief in high school recruiting that gave them the edge. Most of them are four and five-star recruits who have been convincing enough with their talents. “This is exactly how you’re supposed to build an offensive line both teams do it exactly the right way. That’s what I love about this game because that’s what makes these teams so steady and dependable,” commented the podcast host. That’s enough clarity for Deion to try his luck by hitting the roads.
The justification behind Deion Sanders’ strategy
Deion Sanders might be a person who is always up for experimenting, but not in recruitment. When it’s time to reel in fresh talent, he blindly trusts the transfer portal. And this is what Coach Prime said to justify: “I can’t do things other coaches can do. You know why? I’m Coach Prime.” However, he was not the only one. Colorado’s Director of Player Personnel, Corey Phillips also believed, “taking a bunch of 18-year-old kids to try to go win a grown man’s game that that that’s not smart.”

Maybe it’s Deion’s stoic belief that he is being treated differently that stops him from hitting the road. He believes that going door to door would upset the coaches. “For me to go, let’s say I go to Florida and I’m visiting IMG, you don’t think those coaches are going to be a little upset if I don’t come by the school down the street?… Now the coach is mad,” shared the Buffs HC.

Going by the data, Coach Prime had made no off-campus recruiting visits to prospects’ homes or high schools between December 2022 and March 2024. However, with time Deion Sanders got a bitter lesson by solely counting on the transfer portal. Is the Buffs HC considering a shift in recruitment?
