Is Steve Sarkisian's coaching style holding Texas back despite their narrow win over Vanderbilt?

What an intense game it was, even though the Texas Longhorns secured a 27-24 win against the Vanderbilt Commodores. It was not a piece of cake. The Commodores held the game tight until the last moment and started to inch closer to Texas after the halftime. Post the game, not only are there doubts about Longhorn’s position but also it is becoming a sign of distress for head coach Steve Sarkisian. Let’s see what experts have to say about it.

Even insider and sports writer Trey Wallace feels the same as he took to X to mention his doubts on Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns performance, saying, “Vanderbilt has hung tough with Texas all game, never letting this get out of hand, had a chance to tie it. Texas, it has a QB situation, but there was not a need for Arch Manning tonight.” Well, that’s a straight fact. Vanderbilt was the first one to get into the scoreboard after converting a turnover. They made Texas work hard for that win.

However, when talking about the Texas Longhorns quarterback situation, the insider is right. There was no need for Arch Manning, as their starting quarterback Quinn Ewers did the job. Ewers completed 27 out of 37 of his pass attempts running for 288 yards with three touchdowns which is remarkable, but it is also true that his two costly interceptions gave an edge to the Dores. Surely this got the fans were pondering if, like the last game against Georgia, Manning would come out taking over Ewers’s role. HC was pretty satisfied with keeping Ewers on for the whole game.

Steve Sarkisian on Quinn Ewers’s performance

Quinn Ewers displayed a pretty decent game against Vanderbilt, but he did have a pair of turnovers and interceptions in each half of the game. This was one of the major reasons that the Commodores gave them a close fight. But you can also not overlook the fact that the Texas offense had a total of 292 yards posted against Dores in that 288 yards were of Ewers. Even head coach Steve Sarkisian appreciated him after the game, saying, “Well, I thought he showed great composure, and I really thought he played well.”

Moreover, Steve Sarkisian also discussed the mistakes Ewers made with all the turnovers in today’s game, saying, “Some times you can’t control b–s getting tipped in the air; the right place at the right time for them. But at the end of the day, I thought he played really well, was efficient, and got the b–l to our playmakers when they needed it.” That’s right, Ewers had a very nice tune with wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr., who received two touchdown passes for 97 yards on six receptions. In the end, they won the game, even if with a close margin that counts as a victory.
