The Texas has been considered one of the top collegiate football teams all season long. Everyone thought that if they lost the SEC title game, they would still host a first-round game.  The Horns have lost two heartbreaking games to Georgia. In the eyes of the CFP selection committee, that is okay. However, where are the high-quality wins? There are no wins against ranked opponents on Texas’s record. They managed to avoid the other 5 teams that were ranked in the SEC. The one they faced? Lost both times. With Texas’ championship dreams on the line, a former NFL scout issued a harsh warning about the team’s lackluster future.

In reference to Gunner Stockton’s background, John Middlekauff said on The Colin Cowherd Podcast on December 9: “Texas does have that with Arch Manning now. I don’t know if Sark believes he’s as good of a passer right now as Quinn Ewers clearly by not playing him. You’ve already paid Quinn the NIL, but I think they have no shot to win the national championship with him at quarterback.” It just means the team should concentrate on selecting their starting quarterback carefully.

Middlekauff used Georgia’s current quarterback situation as an example to explain Quinn Ewers’ situation for Texas, saying, “You watch Quinn Ewers. He cannot do any of that, so as the game goes on, what does Georgia do? They start getting pressure on him. He starts getting sacked. He’s not a very dynamic guy.

It just seems like Texas should go with Arch Manning, while Georgia was anyway made to choose Gunner Stockton after Carson Beck got injured at the end of the first half of their game against the Longhorns. In case you were unaware, the Bulldogs pulled off a thrilling comeback victory over the No. 2 Texas in overtime.

As you recall, Steve Sarkisian did the same thing with Arch Manning in week eight. However, Ewers only completed 27 of 46 passes for 358 yards and one score in the SEC Championship game. He was sacked six times and had two interceptions as well. Is Ewers alone accountable for putting Texas’ SEC title dream in jeopardy? Well, no. Steve Sarkisian was also held accountable for his poor decision-making during the heated debate.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Quinn Ewers the right choice, or should Texas gamble on Arch Manning for the playoffs?

Have an interesting take?

Is Texas HC going to replace Quinn Ewers?

One more year with my teammates and one more year of development with Coach Sark made the most sense,” Quinn Ewers stated as he made his 2024 return announcement. However, it appears to have backfired. Does Steve Sarkisian’s insistence on starting his senior quarterback during his final collegiate football season stem from this? Fans aren’t thrilled, regardless of the cause.

Fans questioned Steve Sarkisian’s choice to keep Ewers on the field instead of Arch Manning after the heartbreaking defeat. Many supporters have one request in light of what transpired inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium: that backup Manning be used in the playoffs rather than Ewers. With the defeat, Texas drops out of the top four seeds that will receive a first-round bye, while Georgia moves up to the second position in the playoffs.
