Texas A&M hired their new athletic director just last year in Trev Alberts, and less than a year has passed since he arrived. It seems now his hiring has started to pay dividends. The College Football Hall of Fame inducted AD has just pulled off something that will now give Mike Elko the boost he needs. But what exactly is it?

Well, Texas A&M had their personal TV deal apart from the SEC one that gave them $18 million per year. The deal was set to expire this year, and so the gates of financial prosperity had just opened. Banking quickly on the opportunity, Trev Alberts and Texas A&M have now signed a new multi-media rights space deal that will run for 15 years and guarantee them $515 million over its course. So, what does this mean?

That essentially means almost a two-fold increase in the college’s athletic departments’ revenue at $34 million per year. This deal, when finalized, will be the biggest deal in college athletics of the current era. Playfly Sports, who have made the deal, will now execute NIL for the college as a part of their ‘Dynamic Custom Strategy.’ And if this news couldn’t be more joyful, there’s the cherry on top.

Texas A&M Aggies is also one of the select few programs on the radar of NBA legend Kobe Bryant’s nephew, Jett Washington. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound athlete plays as a safety, although he is quite dynamic in various aspects. He is currently ranked number 1 in both ON3’s and 247 Sports’ rankings in the safety position for the 2026 class. The four-star athlete will provide the competitive edge and glamour to the Aggies’ already elite program. Who wouldn’t tune in for an Aggies’ game to have a look at ‘the’ Kobe Bryant’s nephew, right? And he merits the eyeballs, too. Here’s why.

Hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, he has studied at Bishop German School. The same school that has produced football players like DeMarco Murray and Rome Odunze. Now comes his versatility. He is someone who can play as a WR, linebacker, and edge rusher, too, but his versatility surpasses even the sport itself. He also plays basketball and helped his high school to a state championship on the court. This makes him one of the hottest commodities in current college athletics. Moving on, let’s see how the potential media rights move will change Texas A&M’s landscape.

Potential effects of the media rights deal on Texas A&M

The move is nothing short of a breakthrough in college athletics, as it will open the door for NIL opportunities. But will also guarantee brand collaborations, a larger media footprint, and mainly more eyeballs for the college in general, both on TV and in the stands. Jaxson Callaway, a reporter for the Aggies, wrote about the potential turnarounds for college after this deal.

For those who don’t understand what this deal means, essentially, Texas A&M has signed a new sponsorship for their athletes. Nothing in terms of streaming will change. They’ll help advertise A&M and their athletes on a large scale and essentially fund a lot of NIL, I’d guess”. Clearly, this is a moment that Texas A&M needed.
