Woah! Temperatures are soaring high at the Gerald J. Ford Stadium. SMU Mustangs just handed TCU Horned Frogs a major loss, winning 66-42. But let’s be honest, the real highlight of the game was Sonny Dykes, TCU’s head coach. His antics were more entertaining than the actual game. And obviously, they were not pleasant ones.
Well, Dykes got ejected from the stadium during the second half on Saturday. While the HC lands in a sticky spot, the Horned Frogs expected some kind of maturity from their $30 million HC.
Things haven’t been going great for the Horned Frogs. They’ve already dropped two games, including a blowout loss to SMU, while the Mustangs are riding high with 3-1. To make matters worse, their coach, Sonny Dykes, got ejected from the game. Well, now the name of the game, “Battle for the Iron Skillet” is doing justice. The reason why Dykes was taken out of the stadium was to pay a penalty for two back-to-back unsportsmanlike conduct mistakes.

We all know it pains the HC to see his program stoop so low against the Mustangs. So, when the Horned Frogs already had an ugly first half with 41-21, they started the second half with a kickoff return. Thanks to TCU wide receiver Jordyn Bailey. But poor them! The Horned Frogs were flagged for holding which then brought the touchdown back. This was enough for Dykes to lose his cool as he got involved in a heated talk with the officials on the sideline.
And how could they just let go of TCU without a penalty? TCU had to pay the price for their HC’s misconduct and was forced to move back to the TCU 10. While Dykes’ other wide receiver Savion Williams came with a big gain, the HC continued to mess with the officials. And this time, they did not let go of Dykes.
Instead, getting flagged for the second time led to his ejection with 14 minutes to go in the third. He also gave a little fist pump to the provoked SMU crowd on his way out. Looks like it has become Dykes’ ritual now.
What’s your perspective on:
Was Sonny Dykes' ejection justified, or was it an overreaction by the officials?

Sonny Dykes drama, a déjà vu moment for college football fans
September 21’s hoopla was enough for college football fans to return to 2021. While the Horned Frogs did beat the Mustangs in the last two meetings, the last time SMU defeated TCU was in 2021 when Dykes stepped in as the HC. Then too he had been the center of attention for his reckless behavior on the sidelines. At that time, he got into a stormy debate with the referees. The reason? It’s the same as Saturday’s.
Dykes went off the rail when the referees after a holding call negated a kickoff return for a touchdown. However, getting the first penalty failed to bring the HC under control. Instead, he continued to unleash his fury towards the officials. After all, the Horned Frogs chose their HC going by the milestones Dykes overcame. He has a notable career having mentored the Louisiana Tech and securing the Western Athletic Conference title.

Plus, he mentored Southern Methodist University to a historic 10–3 record in 2019. This was enough for Sonny Dykes to earn the HC spot with TCU who agreed to pay a hefty amount of $30 million for a six-year deal, that made around $5 million annually for 2022. But later the HC got a hike and now draws approximately $7.5 million annually. So for the sake of his program, it’s high time that he must get his conduct a whitewash!
