The day of New Year celebrations left the nation shaken. “It was very intentional behavior. This man was trying to run over as many people as he could.” The safe heaven located in the heart of the French Quarter became an area of disaster. A man crashed into a crowd of people enjoying their New Year and then went on to open fire. The New Orleans police department reported that around 14 people passed away and around 35 were seriously injured. This raised major concerns, and the New Orleans Mayor and the FBI quickly got on to find a solution to the problem. The biggest concern was how the police would deal with the Sugar Bowl game rush.

“Heavy FBI presence at the Georgia/Notre Dame game,” Deon J. Hampton took to X to share a picture with the caption. Marc H. Morial, a member of the Louisiana State Senate, had called in for better security for the game. After the massive delay from the last day, it is expected that fans of the Sugar Bowl would feel safer with the increased FBI and police presence, but it doesn’t look like that is the case.

The initial FBI statement issued a note stating that the “t-rrorist attack” was not a one-man job. The statement also shared that around the French Quarter, “other potential IEDs were also located.” Now this is what is sparking the outrage amongst fans.

Many have taken to X and shared that the FBI is trying to “downplay” the situation. Although initially it was reported as “not a one-man job,” later on, the statement changed, pointing out that the man had acted alone.

Could this all be because of the Sugar Bowl? For Louisiana and the people, this is an important event. No fan would want to miss a playoff game between 2 of the best teams in the country. So, as per fans, is the FBI downplaying the scenario or are they trying to contain panic?

Fans outraged during Sugar Bowl

“So the fbi was too busy prosecuting grandmas who pray outside of abortion clinics to catch this and then respond by making every football fan going to the sugar bowl have to spend thousands of dollars or not go to the game well they pretend to work,” a fan wrote on X. The man behind the incident was reportedly posting videos months ago supporting a t-rrorist organization. However, this act did not land him on the FBI watchlist. This has also caused some fans to be disappointed with the police and the FBI.

Another fan wrote, “His FBI/CIA created problems are interfering with his sugar bowl, I mean ice cream bowl.” This jab was directed to POTUS Joe Biden. Allegedly, the entire push to make the FBI downplay the situation was because of the Sugar Bowl. The fans had already experienced one delay, and another would cause major problems.

Finally, another fan mentioned, “The FBI just changed their statement. They are now saying he acted alone. They downgraded the te-ror threat on the postponned Sugar Bowl and it will now happen.” As we pointed out before, this could be because the FBI is trying to avoid further panic regarding the scenario.

One even added, “I never heard a satisfactory explanation on what the deal was, but was relieved to see the FBI New Orleans senior official announce yesterday morning that what happened was not a te-rorist event. Was that just yesterday? Look forward to your Sugar Bowl coverage today John!” Even with the feds on high alert, it’s still all about keeping the fans calm and composed. More so since it’s the biggest month for sports in the country.
