Can Lane Kiffin's Rebels defy the odds and crash the SEC playoff party this season?

Lane Kiffin’s team has increased their chances for the college football playoffs after winning over the Georgia Bulldogs in week 11. Did you see that victory coming their way? Bulldogs is one of the strongest teams in college football. Smart’s quarterback Carson Beck once again displayed poor performance,  but this time he was not alone; the entire offense needs to be blamed. Kiffins’s defense overpowered them and secured a 28-10 victory. But where do they stand after week 12?

Although the Rebels did not play this week, they still improved their standings. Now you must be wondering how? Week 12 was again full of thrilling games, but with the victory came a defeat. Kiffin benefited from several losses and now his team is ranked at #11 in the college football rankings with an 8-2 record. But wait! Greg McElroy, an American football commentator and former quarterback in the National Football League, has sparked a storm around Lane Kiffin’s football program.

On November 19, the YouTube channel of ESPN shared McElory’s analysis; he highlighted how the SEC tiebreakers will affect the playoffs. McElroy dropped some shockers for Ole Miss and discussed their future: “The bad news is they (Georgia) have losses to Ole Miss and Alabama, which could quickly knock them out of the tiebreaker at six and two, and then for Ole Miss, the best case for them to find a way in is to finish second at six and two. Have chaos pretty much everywhere, and they’re tied with Georgia at six and two, and they have the head-to-head against Georgia.” Is Georgia their biggest threat? If we take a closer look at the rankings as of now, BYU and Tennesse are ranked ahead of Ole Miss despite losing on Saturday. However, BYU might drop significantly after their 17-13 defeat to Kansas. Alabama is above Ole Miss at No. 10.

Moving ahead, McElroy predicts some percentage and tries to make things clear considering the college football landscape right now. “So basically, percentage chances are, Texas has like a 90 per 75% chance to be there. Alabama has around a 70% chance to be there, assuming they win their final two games. Georgia has about a 40% chance to be there, and everybody else has a pretty slim chance but is possible.” Did he just say that Ole Mis has very few chances? Indeed, he did! All of us have witnessed the changing dynamics and moving ahead, competition is just going to get intense. The playoff fates and chaos can lead to unexpected outcomes. Let’s see what is coming next for Lane Kiffin and the squad.

The Gators have made significant changes in their defense to stop Kiffin’s strong offense, according to Sports Illustrated. And it was needed as well. College football is in Week 12 and competition is getting fierce every single week. Will Dart and Ole Miss present a stiff challenge for an improved Florida Gators defense? As of now, neither Billy nor the other staff have mentioned if they have added some new names to the defensive line, but they have surely made huge improvements.

Billy Napier played smart at the right time and now they are his squad, all set to counter the high-powered offense of Lane Kiffin. Currently, Ole Miss leads the SEC in both total yards. But the question is, will they successfully maintain their momentum, or will Napier’s strategy crash their playoff dreams?
