Can Steve Sarkisian's new recruit live up to the Deion Sanders comparisons, or is it too much hype?

Texas Longhorns are shooting for the stars. After his $2.4 million masterstroke for the 2023 season, Steve Sarkisian hooked in another big fish, the five-star commit Jonah Williams. As we all know, this has been a big win for the Longhorns since Williams is the No.1 safety in the class of 2025. And here comes a captivating comparison, as the latest commit is now compared to an NFL legend who happened to be Deion Sanders’ team buddy. Rivals Network analyst Geoff Ketchum had the honor of drawing the parallel. Meanwhile, Sarkisian’s double whammy has Alabama and the SEC rivals feeling the heat.

Yet again, Sarkisian and Co. emerged as the top favorite. On August 25, the No. 1 safety of the 2025 class, Williams, committed to Texas. No wonder he went with the Longhorns over  Oregon, LSU, and Texas A&M. After all, he just had to since the fresh commit believes, “Texas boys create legacies where legends are born.” The 6’3″, 203-pound player is ranked 10th overall on the 247Sports Composite list. And as soon as the news flashed, Ketchum could not keep calm. Instead, he dedicated an episode to Williams. But hardly did the fans expect the analyst to score him NFL kudos. Williams’ talents had the analyst channeling his inner matchmaker, pairing him up with NFL legend Darren Woodson. He said, “The player I compared him (Jonah Williams) to was former Dallas Cowboy, should be a Hall of Famer, Darren Woodson.”

The NFL great shared some of the best days in the Cowboys’ ‘hood with Deion. But what makes him unique? He could put up a grand show even after getting pinned down by Dallas. “Darren Woodson was a unique guy that even at the size he played at was able to play in the secondary,” highlighted Ketchum. Williams, too, shares these traits as his encouraging length and athletic frame open the door to add more weight at the next level. Now that he will be boarding Sarkisian’s roster, which runs heavily on talent, it would further boost his skills.

Steve Sarkisian stirs excitement with new additions

The Longhorns HC’s moves have left the rivals biting their nails. Sarkisian’s program is now six spots up after they snagged the highly-touted two-sport star from Galveston, Jonah Williams. And 247Sports national analyst Hudson Standish’s March 17 scouting report said it all about the latest recruit, “One of the freakiest athletes in the 2025 recruiting cycle…Two-way star at wide receiver and defensive back for historic TXHSFB program Galveston Ball, leading the Tors to their best two-year stretch since the 1990s.”

But Sarkisian is far from hitting the “settle” button. To ensure that his player with the NFL tag, Williams, is backed up by a strong offense, the Longhorns HC came up with a promising addition: the most potent SEC commit of 2025. It’s none other than 2025 offensive lineman Nick Brooks.
