The Longhorns HC Steve Sarkisian is in a serious pickle. With the College Football Playoff heating up, Sark is riding hard for starting QB Quinn Ewers, even as whispers of costly mistakes and shaky decisions grow louder. The question on everyone’s mind: is it time to usher in the Arch Manning era, or does Sark see something in Ewers the rest of us don’t?

Ewers, cool as a cucumber, seems unfazed—stepping up in big moments and doubling down on his claim as the guy. But let’s be real, fans and analysts are buzzing: is Sark genuinely all-in on Ewers, or is this just a cover-up for his own play-calling slip-ups? Whatever the game plan is, it’s keeping everyone on edge as Texas chases that CFP glory.

Wescott Eberts, a Burnt Orange Nation team site producer, posted on his X account on December 22 that “Steve Sarkisian said that Quinn Ewers audibled into both of the touchdown runs by Jaydon Blue.” Does the quarterback actually contribute to the Texas vs. Clemson game, or is this just a cover-up? For those who don’t know, according to Sark, Ewers made changes that were needed at the line of scrimmage during the game versus Clemson. It helped running back Blue have success with scoring plays, such as a noteworthy 38-yard run and a later TD run of 77 yards. And that contributed to Texas’s CFB Playoff triumph of 38-24.

It just shows Quinn is Sark’s guy. Ewers might not have the strongest arm or be the most elusive in the pocket, but he’s becoming a real threat with his ability to read defenses and make smart calls at the line of scrimmage. While Ewers deserves some credit, the real star of the night was Jaydon Blue. His 10.4 yards per carry were something the Clemson Tigers just couldn’t stop. Even so, Ewers still got a lot of attention. It’s all right, but how can anyone forget Ewers’ poor play?

Ewers’ 2024 season has seen a combination of strong showings and crucial errors under duress, with a total of 9 interceptions and 25 touchdowns. And those consecutive interceptions in the Georgia game had a big effect on Texas’s performance. Unforgettable for a Texas supporter.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Sarkisian's loyalty to Ewers a strategic move, or is it holding the Longhorns back?

You cannot, however, ignore the reality that Texas earned its second straight CFP spot under his direction, and his season has been hindered by ailments, notably an oblique strain. The most surprising part is that Sark highlighted Ewers’ tenacity and impact on the team above recent on-field performance in order to protect his position.”Quinn is a heck of a player. The only reason he had some hiccups this season was his oblique injury. His fight inspired the team to give their best, too, “Sarkisian said.

However, the question is if the Texas head coach will be able to keep this quarterback after doing so much. Since Ewers’ future is already the subject of conjecture.

Will Quinn Ewers stay with the Longhorns?

Speculation regarding Quinn Ewers’ future adds another level of complexity to the problem for the Texas head coach. According to reports, the quarterback is debating between transferring to another university, such as Notre Dame, or announcing his entry into the NFL. Ewers has, however, batted off these rumors. “I’m not sure yet. I’m just trying to win these [College Football Playoff] games. I haven’t thought about anything beyond that,” Quinn stated.

It merely shows that the top quarterback has no intention of leaving Texas. But according to CFB insiders, the Texas quarterback should play for other colleges rather than Texas if he believes in himself. If not, he is eligible to enter the NFL draft. Because some people think that employing Ewers excessively in spite of his difficulties is impeding Manning’s growth and squandering a valuable chance to get him ready for the big moment.

Whether this is true or not, Manning has demonstrated potential, but he hasn’t gotten many chances to play. When he does, it’s usually when the game’s already decided and they’re just running down the clock. Even today, Sarkisian put him in on a late fourth down, and Manning fumbled. People are starting to wonder why he hasn’t played more, especially with Ewers struggling. Let’s see how Sarkisian resolves his quarterback dilemma now.
