No matter how much the Texas Longhorns try to dodge the question, something has been truly missing in Steve Sarkisian’s program this season. And now we know what that something is—the quarterback rage. The Quinn Ewers’ magic has faded away somehow. Is that because even the QB no longer wants to stay with Sarkisian’s squad?
Well, we don’t know that yet. What we know is that Ewers was projected to be the NFL draft pick. But that plan seems to be off the table now that Ewers had such a struggling season. That’s when HC Sarkisian added some fire to the already hot topic.

QB woes have been constant for Sarkisian this season. After all, his star QB Ewers fell prey to injuries multiple times. And somehow, the Longhorns HC can’t trust his backup QB, Arch Manning. Maybe realization hit him hard after their second loss against Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs this season. Ewers could only manage to finish 27-of-46 passing for 358 yards. At the same time, the junior QB missed several critical passes toward the end of the game and in overtime. So, it’s evident that the NFL gates will be closed for Ewers. Now, this lands Sarkisian in a tough spot. To or not to bring the QB back for another season? That’s when Sarkisian thought of addressing the issue. On The Rich Eisen Show, the Texas HC started by praising Ewers a bit: “I thought he was able to use his legs a little bit better here the last couple weeks.”
He then stated how the Longhorns need to improve in terms of protecting the passer and finding the right balance among other factors. It was then time for him to address the elephant in the room. The cruciality of the position that Ewers holds and how he has failed to live up to it. Sarkisian stated, “You’re the quarterback of the University of Texas. You probably get a little more credit than we deserve when we play well.” Yes, as the rule goes, signal-callers are often considered the flagbearers of any program.
The Texas HC further added, “You probably get too much blame when you lose a ba-l game in overtime against a Georgia who arguably is the best defense in the country. It so all in all that comes with the territory.” Now what does the NFL agent think about the Ewers’ fate in the transfer scenario?

Quinn Ewers’ fumble before the 2025 NFL draft
Yes, we know about how Ewers has gotten rid of all his luster this season. However, he stepped into the 2024 season with the hype of being the top quarterback prospect in the 2025 class. Time for some reality check! Many mock drafts do not have Sarkisian’s QB’s name as the first-round pick. Yes, even after leading the Longhorns to the CFP, he still didn’t get a spot on the list.
So, now the only option he has is to try his luck playing in college for the next season as well. This comes from the hope of boosting his stocks for the 2026 draft. That’s when NFL Rookie Watch posted a rumor on X. “Quinn Ewers is reportedly “debating” on returning to college football and forgoing the NFL Draft yet again,” posted the Rookie Watch. But looks like Sarkisian and Co. are all “ready” to count on their backup QB Manning the next season.

“Many NFL scouts reportedly believe Ewers could “benefit” from another year in college. Ewers has one more year of eligibility left, and it most likely will be spent with another Top-10 team. The Longhorns QB has a DECISION to make,” read the tweet. So now two questions are looming for Longhorns fans. One is whether Arch Manning has replaced Quinn Ewers in Steve Sarkisian’s list of favorites. Two, even if Texas gives Ewers a chance, will he choose the Longhorns or go for another Top-10 program to get an easy pass to the NFL?
