Payton Thorne claps back at bettors—Is it fair to blame players for your betting losses?

The start of the season for the Tigers was a blast. Going up against Alabama A&M, Payton Thorne carried the game with 4 TDs and around 13-21 completed passes. Thorne went on to run for around 322 yards and the game ended with Auburn grabbing a massive 73-3 win over A&M. You probably never thought that the Tigers would be able to defeat the Bulldogs, right? Well, that was exactly what pushed fans to bet it all on Peyton Thorne and his team when they went up against California. But, folks forgot one thing, Auburn didn’t win against Georgia, it was Alabama A&M.

So, naturally, when they faced the Golden Bears, it was a disaster. With 21-14 on the scoreboard, the Bears took away the win and Auburn was left with a massive L. The good thing is, fans were there to give company to the Tigers as well. Unnecessary Roughness took to X on September 11th to mention, “Payton Thorne’s Venmo got spammed after the Auburn vs Cal game.” Fans were not happy with losing their money and Thorne was not happy with fans bashing him. “It’s funny. When they lose money, they want their money back, but when they win money on a parley, no one’s ever sent me any of that money,” Thorne was quick to hit back. The game against the Bears was wonky at best. While Thorne managed to lock in 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions, the rest of the team was not on point.

The offense and defense were sloppy at best. The defense only started picking up after the second half of the game and the offense and run game were a disaster. The Tigers started with a 75-yard TD drive. However, the running backs were quite slow when it came down to the run game. Also, the offensive line of the team had a hard time protecting Thorne. The Golden Bears managed to sack Thorne 3 times and brought him down for a loss of 25 yards. This does raise some eyebrows regarding the fate of Thorne and the Tigers when they go up against the real Bulldogs.

Can Peyton Thorne help his team win?

October 5th is when Auburn goes up against Georgia and from what we saw during the Bears game, there is much to improve if Thorne wants to win. The Dawgs have been on a roll. Grabbing a win against Clemson with 34-3 and then defeating TN Tech with 48-3. The Bulldogs’ offense and defense have been on point and QB Carson Beck is slaying it out there.

Auburn still needs to work on its overall game and presence. While Keldric Faulk and Auburn’s defensive line can be labeled the silver lining for the team, they won’t be able to survive against the Bulldogs’ offense. The current injuries and issues ongoing for HC Kirby Smart could be a proper opening for Auburn to grab a win. However, there is still a lot of time before both teams go up against each other. Let’s hope this time around Auburn fans will know who to bet on.
