Well, initially, the refs seemed to have think so! The on-field call was for a fumble and a turnover to Louisville. With 7:30 to go in the 4th quarter, and the score at 27-27, that recovery would have been huge for the home team on its own 5-yard line. Have an interesting take?

Louisville’s loss against the Mustangs resulted in a big disappointment for their fans, as they were quite angry at the referees’ decision to make a last-minute call to overturn the fumble. A fan completely denied the final call made by them, saying, “In WHAT WORLD is this not a fumble?”

If the fumble had stayed, the Mustangs would not have gotten the chance to score a touchdown, which could have given an edge to Louisville. The fury raised so much that a fan accused the referees of favoring the SMU team, saying, “Refs have SMU ML.” Looking at today’s game, what else can you expect from the fans? The sudden shift in the decision created a perception of bias toward the Louisville team.

Both teams were standing on a 27-27 because of the fumble overturn decision; the ball stayed with Mustangs offense, and fans are not letting this call made by the refs slide easily. Their anger suggests that the initial call seemed clear and the final decision was quite unjustified.

Following the same notion, a fan commented on the above tweet, saying, “I don’t know how they overturn this.” Not a single fan agreed to the fact that there might be a slight possibility that it was not a fumble; another fan joined others with the same opinion, saying, “clearly a fumble.”

Well, the game might have turned in SMU’s favor, but Louisville fans completely stand by the fact that the refs made a wrong call, saying, “This is a fumble.” For now, we can end this debate on the note that it was their day, and for instance, let’s believe it was a result of Mustangs’ hard work, not the fumble overturn.
