Is Carson Beck the weak link in the Bulldogs' chain, or is he just misunderstood?

After four back-to-back victories, the Georgia Bulldogs taste their second defeat of the season. 7-2! Can they still qualify for the playoffs? Week by week, the competition is heating up, while fans are expecting all the players to put forward their A game. Kirby Smart’s quarterback has disappointed everyone with back-to-back poor performances.

What is going on with him exactly? The story repeats again, and the Bulldogs’ offense couldn’t get going once again, managing 245 total yards, out of which 59 were rushing yards. Come on! It is Week 11, and such poor performance is not entertained by experts and insiders. Adam Breneman, CFB analyst, labeled Carson Beck a sitting duck for his poor performance against Ole Miss.

In the latest post he shared on Instagram, he appreciated Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin but criticized Carson Beck: “This is the toughest I have ever seen a Lane Kiffin team play. They were physical. They handled Georgia’s defensive line. They handled Georgia’s run game. A good defense can really sense when a quarterback doesn’t have any juice, and boy, did Ole Miss defense sense it.” Ole Miss did perform well. Their defense did everything that was required to shut Smart’s O-line.

Carson is leading the wrong table this season. Can you guess? Yes, he has the highest number of interceptions this season. Breneman shed light on the same and mentioned, “I mean, they could sense that Carson Beck was back there like a sitting duck. Wasn’t playing with my swagger. End up with five sacks, and Jared Ivey is such an elite pass rusher; all that money that way different spent on the portal down on the defensive line came out the play.”

When did you see Beck this underconfident before? Bulldogs offense is Kirby Smart’s weakness this season. Will they bounce back stronger next week, or is Beck all set to disappoint the fans for one more time? Moving forward, let’s discuss how Smart reacted to Beck’s performance.

Kirby Smart defends Carson Beck against growing criticism

The Bulldogs quarterback tried to make a comeback; he showed some improvement in ball discipline, but guess what? Beck struggled overall. You know what is surprising? While the entire country is blaming Beck and the offensive line for the defeat. Smart is still defending his quarterback. Yes! It’s not a new thing because he has been doing this for the past few weeks. Last week, Beck made three interceptions, which tallied to 11 interceptions. Smart, being the leader he is, found a loophole and defended him. Similarly, after the defeat against Ole Miss, he mentioned that, given the circumstances, his so-called key player played reasonably well.

Is Carson Beck the weak link in the Bulldogs' chain, or is he just misunderstood?

Have an interesting take?

USA Today reported Smart’s new reason to back his player, “I thought he came out gunning and throwing,” Smart added. “Carson Beck had his best week of practice. I thought Carson did some good things. He threw some play-action strikes. He stepped up and made some great third-down plays.

The Bulldogs tried to pull the game, but the turnovers once again put them in a bad spot. Why should Beck face the criticism alone? He didn’t get much from his running back, Nate Frazier, who fumbled twice, and the entire O-line struggled through the game.

Smart further added, “I thought Carson (Beck) played good, guys. We put a lot on him, and he’s playing on the road with crowd noise. But man, he stands in that pocket and converted some third downs and made some really nice plays. I thought he threw the ball away a couple times tonight. It was really good. So I’m not here to be critical of him.” Till when the head coach is going to defend his QB. We are sure the Bulldogs want to see the best version of Carson Beck. What better day to do it than against the Tennessee Volunteers when College Game Day would be in town on November 16?
