The Michigan Wolverines continue to be in the news with just one month left for the final signing season. There seems to be a new twist every day regarding their pursuit of LSU commit Derek Underwood. First, it emerged that the Wolverines offered him a NIL package on par with LSU’s proposal. Then it came to light that the Tigers remain confident about his commitment, however, a possible shake up of their coaching staff could yet give hope to Sherrone Moore and his program.
Morre has been trying to fix the problems of the previous transfer portal that eventually led to a weak QB panel. This season has seen him use multiple players in the position and while their chances of landing Underwood remain in the air, their QB problems could worsen before they get any better according to new intel.
James Yoder shed light on the future of Michigan quarterbacks Alex Orji and Jadyn Davis. According to Yoder they might be headed to the exit door once the transfer portal opens next month. “I’m not going to say this is a guarantee. I’m just going to give you what the vibes, the tea leaves, the back channeling is telling me. Alex Orji and Jaydn Davis, I don’t think either one of those guys are going to be a part of this program by the end of the year I think both are going to transfer out,” he said on the Michigan Football Report.

Michigan still has no QB commits in their 2025 class. Needless to say, they badly need a solid QB1 to restore the prestige with a better next season. Moore experimented with three QBs in a few weeks. After Davis Warren’s interception issues in the Oregon game, he turned to Alex Orji, the Junior QB, holding great control over the passing plays. However, he came up short against Washington, and people immediately started to call the decision a failure.
About Orji, Yoder added, ”I expect Orji to go somewhere where he, you know, probably closer to home to Texas where he can maybe play tight end maybe playing H back different position other than quarterback.” The situation is no different for another ex-five star QB Jadyn Davis.
He entered the Wolverines camp last December as an early enrollee. While the coach said he is still in his developing stage and isn’t ready to leave an immediate impact on the team, a transfer portal call seemingly looms large.
”I don’t see Jadyn Davis being a part of the long-term plans as the quarterback for this program. I’ll leave it at that. I hope I’m wrong. Hope those guys have fruitful careers here, but that is what the tea leaves and the vibes out there around this program are saying,” Yoder mentioned.
Davis had high hopes to replace J.J. McCarthy, but has not taken a snap for the Wolverines after a promising spring football season. In fact, on October 15, Davis dropped a cryptic hint about his Michigan future. He posted pictures of him in the maize and blue along with the school’s winged helmet, with the caption, “Sometimes you don’t gotta tell the story…Time will.”

Is Michigan's $5 million offer to Bryce Underwood a game-changer or a desperate move?
Have an interesting take?
The update shared by Yoder won’t be well received in Michigan, especially given the uncertainty around the QB position. Earlier as well, four-star quarterback Carter Smith decommitted to Michigan on October 27. While this was believed to be a move that would open the door for Underwood’s arrival, there remains uncertainty in that area.
On3’s Steve Wiltfong reported, “On the LSU side you know, I think that there’s full confidence that he’s solid in his pledge. Loves the offense, the tradition. He always saw himself at LSU even before uh his process started.” But then came another twist when T.J Ronin discussed Underwood’s future on Michigan at the Vouce of College Football.
Providing an update on LSU’s offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, he revealed, “One of the biggest reasons… Bryce Underwood has interest in LSU is Joe Sloan. He has been offered the head coaching position at ECU, which is his former college; he’s an alumni of ECU, and by some accounts the interest is real.”
The HC Moore has undergone a lot throughout the season. Bagging a 5-4 overall record and a 3-3 record in the Big Ten, the Wolverines have not been in a decent spot in the coaches poll or AP Poll. The brutal 31-12 loss to Texas has unofficially given the verdict of the Wolverines playoff fate of the year. But Morre, as well as, the fans and veterans, chose to keep up hope as they felt most of Michigan’s mistakes were self-inflicted and they could move past it in the rest of the season. But with the same offensive woes continuing to sting, the Wolverines smashed their 2023 national champs glory with a playoff disqualification.
Whether or not the potential loss of two quarterbacks through the transfer portal intensifies the existing offensive blocks for the Wolverines is subject to debate, but the coach continues to see the silver lining.

Sherrone Moore is still optimistic about the Wolverines’ QB woes
The 2025 QB recruitment drought makes all the talking among the Michigan fans. With Bryce Underwood’s status still up in the air and two potential de-commits, it’s hard to see any good in the foreseeable future. But Moore is Moore. And recently, there have been a lot of reports floating around that talk of Michigan’s growing interest in Underwood. In order to lure the 5-star, Michigan has offered Underwood an NIL package north of $5 million over the next three to four years. If the reports from ON3 are to be believed, then the offer is on par with the NIL package put together by LSU.
Moving on, the first-year coach at Ann Arbor has already surpassed a lot of controversy and has become well-seasoned to his tough luck. But the only thing that keeps him going through the mud is his unwavering positive outlook.

After four-star prospect Carter Smith withdrew his commitment, Moore left with zero strength in his QB squad. The J.J. McCarthy era is over for good. But Bryce Underwood can still be a hope. In a reflective perception of the messy situation, the coach said, it would be fine for Michigan. He believes that the recruits will stick to the atmosphere they have built. They have seen the positivity and the broad vision that prevails over the entire Michigan camp.
It will be interesting to see if the No.1 prospect of the 2025 class, the present LSU commit will see what Moore expects him to see and dumps Brain Kelly for a weighed $4 million or not.
