Is Shilo Sanders' performance proof that nepotism is hurting the Buffaloes' chances this season?

All fingers are pointing at Shilo Sanders after his subpar performance in the Week 7 game. After all, the guy just came back from a tough injury, only to face an even tougher loss this week. After missing three games due to an arm injury, Colorado Buffaloes’ safety Shilo made his return against Kansas State. But instead of celebrating a triumphant comeback, he found himself dealing with disappointment. The Buffaloes, who had been riding a three-game winning streak, couldn’t extend it to four with Shilo back on the field. To make things worse, his performance wasn’t what fans were hoping for, leaving many in disbelief.

Following the game, Shilo Sanders shared his reflections on his performance against the Wildcats. Today, On3 Sports mentioned the same on their X handle: “Shilo Sanders pledges to respond after ‘worst game of my life’ vs. Kansas State: “I can’t be going out there, not on my game. I’m the free safety. If I mess up, everybody is gonna see it.”

Well, Shilo vows to bounce back after what he did against Kansas State. Nevertheless, his reaction and dissatisfaction are completely justified. He failed to make several stops and didn’t record any passes defended. Despite that, he managed to record seven total tackles, which ranked as the fourth most on the team. His comeback wasn’t what everyone hoped for, and even Deion Sanders wasn’t shy to throw some shades.

Yes, you heard that right. Shilo Sanders’ father and head coach, Deion Sanders, was extremely disappointed in him. Deion believed that Shilo was out of the game, and then he was preparing for his triumphant return. However, on the day of the big comeback, Shilo unexpectedly made a grave mistake in terms of gameplay, leaving everyone shocked. Coach Prime straightaway criticized him after the game, saying, “I thought he played horrible. I thought he was rusty.” Well, even fans feel the same.

Have an interesting take?

With Shilo Sanders sidelined, other players—without the famous Sanders name—like Carter Stoutmire and Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig, stepped up and led the Buffs to three straight wins. So, Sanders’ return against Kansas State was a big deal, but unfortunately, it didn’t lead to a victory. Following the notion, fans said, “Nepo baby only sees the field because daddy calls the shots.” There has long been a stereotype about Nepo kids being privileged and lacking skill, and Shilo’s performance only reinforced this notion. “It only starts because of his last name,” a fan said. The hate for him became so strong that many wanted him to stay out of the game totally. He should go back on the bench and not play again.” Woah! That’s pretty harsh and blunt!

While discussing Shilo Sanders’ performance this season, an X user pointed out that this is not the first occasion on which he has performed poorly. This seems like a throwback to when Shilo played for Jackson State in 2022. “Respectfully, it’s the norm for him. He played similarly in the 2022 Celebration Bowl. He’s not great in coverage or in open-space tackling opportunities. The defense played better when he was out.” Another fan also had the same opinion regarding Shilo’s gameplay this season, as they said, “He’s been pretty bad all season, tbh.”

Well, this season he was mostly out because of his injury, and giving him the benefit of the doubt. Let’s see if he can perform well in the Buffs’ upcoming games.
