Shilo Sanders' grit in recovery—Is he the toughest player in college football right now?

The story of how the son of Deion and the mighty power of the Buffaloes’ team broke his own horn. Shilo Sanders’ playing style is known to be quite aggressive and rough, which often receives quite a lot of hate for being a bit too spiteful. Now, it looks like karma has caught up to him since the Cornhuskers defeated the Buffaloes breezily and even managed to injure several players on the team, especially Shilo, who broke his right hand. “After I made that tackle, I tried to lift my arm up. It feels like your hands going like this, like your arm goes up, but your hand has no control,” said Shilo as he explained the predicament of his injury.

Shilo released a video on his official YouTube channel on 13th September, titled, ‘The Day I Broke My Arm’, which gave the fans a glimpse into the entire incident and how the Colorado safety endured pain in the medical room. He even went on to share an image of the X-ray that was done on his forearm, which showed that the radius in his right arm was fractured severely from the middle. Yet, he still went on to the field later with a cast to support his team and even greeted fans patiently as they waited to get a picture with him.

In the video, medical professionals from Colorado and Nebraska were present in the room to try to help the youngster out as much as possible. One of the doctors in the video was even heard saying, “He’s a pretty tough kid!” since Shilo wasn’t shrieking in pain or anything like that. It’s tough to say whether Shilo will be back against the Buffs’ game against Baylor University, but the doctor advised Shilo to miss out on 4 to 5 games to let the arm heal properly. Since Shilo is now potentially down for the count, the Buffs’ have found his replacement in Carter Stoutmire, who seems more than prepared for the challenge.

After Shilo had to leave the game midway due to the injury, Carter Stoutmire notched a total of 5 tackles in the first quarter. Stoutmire is a 5-foot-11, 205-pound defensive back who played 9 games for the Buffs in 2023 and will now be carrying the hopes of the team on his back. Interestingly enough, Stoutmire’s father, Omar, and Deion Sanders briefly played together for the Dallas Cowboys during the 1997-1998 seasons and now, their sons will share the field together, solidifying their legacy.

While talking about Stoutmire being the right guy for the job, Deion Sanders said, “Carter is big, physical, can play corner, can play safety, can run and had a couple phenomenal open-field tackles (vs. Nebraska). He’s the future. He’s a kid who went and got out of high school and he’s been doing a wonderful job.” Thus, the Buffaloes look to be implementing a few changes to the squad due to desperate circumstances but will they prove to be beneficial for their upcoming games, is the question of the hour.
