As the Sanders family and the Buffs joined Travis Hunter in celebrating his Heisman Trophy success, Shilo Sanders was a notable absentee. The Colorado safety, who has been in the news more for his ongoing bankruptcy case, has had a mixed season with injuries and some below-par performances. While Shedeur cleared the air around his brother not being in New York on December 14, Shilo was again nowhere to be seen during Coach Prime’s special Christmas outing with his select group.
The Buffs are gearing up for the Alamo Bowl against BYU, but before diving into the game, Deion Sanders took a much-needed break with his some of close aides. Coach Prime was joined by his sons Shedeur, Deion Sanders Jr. Travis Hunter, and Jordan Seaton as they made their way to San Antonio at Sea World Texas.
Coach Prime shared a few Instagram posts capturing their little adventure which showed Hunter and Shedeur, carrying on their friendly Heisman tussle and trying to outdo one another by scoring a basket. The group also posed for a few photographs as Deion Sander captioned the post, “Had a great time at @seaworldtexas today.” Deion also had a message for the SeaWorld.

In a video we see Sanders sharing his experience saying, “Want to thank everyone at SeaWorld for having us here…It was extraordinary, it was wonderful. I even got on the ride, but I loved the games a lot more. But the rides were phenomenal. All kids had a wonderful time, God bless you Seaworld.”
Deion Sanders and Shilo have had an interesting dynamic this season. After his disappointing outing against Kansas State following his return from injury, his father didn’t hold back in his criticism. “I thought he played horrible. I thought he was rusty. I thought he didn’t have his footing,” Coach Prime said after the Buffs’ loss.
Meanwhile, Shilo has been dealing with the ongoing bankruptcy case and received some relief after a ruling by federal bankruptcy Judge Michael E. Romero in Denver on December 17.
Judge Romero allowed Sanders’ bankruptcy case to proceed, but said it will now require a trial to determine whether his actions in a 2015 altercation with a school security guard were “willful and malicious.” In 2015 when Shilo Sanders got caught breaking the no-phone rule while calling his mom, which led to a tense showdown with security officer Josh Darjean.
Shilo, then 15, allegedly assaulted John Darjean, who claims that Shilo’s actions caused severe and permanent injuries after Shilo reportedly elbowed and punched him and left him with $115,000 in medical bills. Darjean sued Sanders and in 2022, a Texas state court awarded him a default judgment of $11.89 million after Shilo missed the trial because of a mix-up with his address, resulting in the default judgment.
In 2023, Shilo filed for bankruptcy seeking relief from the debt. But Darjean contested it, arguing that the debt resulted from a “willful and malicious injury,” which would disqualify this debt from being erased in bankruptcy. The case will now look to determine Shilo’s intent before a final ruling is passed.
Meanwhile, even though Shilo wasn’t part of Coach Prime’s entourage, the Buffs weren’t going to exclude him from their Christmas Edition video on Instagram and he had something to say about his father.

Shilo was mic’d up in the video and we see him in an all-black gear heading to practice. “Merry Christmas Buff Nation. We’re here in the cold, practicing outside, celebrating Christmas…Yeah I got some presents from Christmas but not from Coach Prime though…I seen Coach Prime’s contract, I suppose to be getting a lot of presents but I ain’t got nothing,” Shilo mentioned.
Shilo Sanders has been putting the hard yards and this was the reason why he wasn’t present for Travis Hunter’s Hesiman celebration in New York. During the Heisman ceremony, when his bro Travis Hunter was lifting the most prestigious trophy in college football, Shilo was not there.
Speaking on the 2Legendary podcast, Shedeur Sanders confirmed, “Shilo was at home. He was at home, here, training and working out, getting ready for the game. He knows this is a big game coming up for (us), the bowl game, so he just wanted to stay here and stay focused.”
The big game in focus is the Alamo Bowl contest against BYU Cougars on Saturday. Deion Sanders will be keen to have some bowl success to show for at the Buffs, but in the aftermath, the questions about his sons’ future will linger. While Shedeur seems destined to be one of the top picks in next year’s draft, what about Shilo?

What’s Shilo Sanders’ future move?
Shilo took a brutal broken arm injury against Nebraska and then had to go through surgery. Then after making a comeback, not just the fans but even Coach Prime were on him because of the inconsistency he showed while playing.
Now, getting into the bigger picture, Shilo Sanders’ move to the NFL is going to be a tricky situation. Despite a short-lived season, Shilo successfully smacked 67 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, and 1 interception. But let’s be real: that’s not the kind of stat that will make you a first-round pick. Moreover, it’s not that Shilo was not eligible for the NFL, but COVID gave him an extra year of eligibility, and, his smart move of red-shirting himself at South Carolina made it two. But now it’s time to do some serious thinking.

Now a few weeks back, while having a conversation with Raiders’ head coach Antonio Pierce, Deion Sanders made it very clear that not only for Shedeur Sanders but even for Shilo Sanders, the Raiders are the best place to be in the NFL. He even said, “You are truly the best. Now I need you to do just one thing: I need you to draft those Sanders boys.” Classic Coach Prime move. But let’s see if Shilo Sanders has any luck with that or not!
