The Sanders family put on a show in Colorado’s upset victory over Texas Tech. Shedeur Sanders threw for four touchdowns, while his brother Shilo capped off the win with a crucial fumble return touchdown. Texas had a chance to tie the game late, but a crucial fumble by their quarterback allowed Shilo to seal the deal. It is a new era at Colorado Football. After their latest victory, 41-27, against Texas, the team is now 7-2, and a big chunk of the credit goes to Deion Sanders. No wonder son Shilo Sanders decided to pay tribute to his father after scoring a touchdown late in the fourth quarter against Texas. He was in the end zone when he celebrated by pulling off a classic move: The Deion Shuffle.
What’s interesting is that Shedeur Sanders had also attempted the move after the Buffs win over Nebraska. This drew both praise and critique from ‘Coach Prime’, who stated Shedeur’s moves were a “work in progress.” But after Shilo’s moves went viral on the internet, even Snoop Dogg couldn’t resist talking about it.
He shared a video comparing Shilo’s moves to Deion Sanders’s shuffle with a caption, “Like father, like son.” Snoop Dogg further wrote, “Inspirational n legendary !! N it’s not done yet.”

Well, it isn’t surprising to see Snoop Dogg appreciate them. After all, he is great friends with Deion Sanders. In fact, back in 2014, when Shilo was more inclined towards music, Dogg had some profound advice for Prime Time. “Football may be too much for him. He’s got some big shoes to fill coming behind you…But this [music], he don’t have no shoes to follow.” Eventually, the lad gravitated towards the sport.
Interestingly, Prime Time’s jersey number used to be 21, and as we all know, Shilo’s number is also 21. So for older football fans, it was like seeing Deion Sanders’ younger version once again. After all, he would celebrate in style with this shuffle. But this also reminds us of one of Deion Sanders’ NFL games in 1994. When he moved to the San Francisco 49ers, there was bad blood between him and his former team, the Atlanta Falcons.
So, on December 16, 1994, when the 49ers and Falcons faced off, Prime Time unleashed his high-step celebration/shuffle against the Falcons as he returned a Jeff George interception 93 yards for a touchdown. It was his first game against his former team. But where did the choreography originate?

Well, the origins can be traced back to Oakland rapper MC Hammer. He would wear parachute pants, which were quite famous during the 80s and 90s, and took the radio by storm with songs like ‘U Can’t Touch This’ and ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’. The rapper performed a version of the shuffle in his music video, ‘Good to Go’. The dance was inspired by the New Orleans-based dance trend buckjumping.
The ‘Deion Shuffle’ was once used to mock Deion Sanders…
Let us go back to September 2023. It was a game between the Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado State Rams. Though the Buffs were heavily favored, the Rams looked ready as they jumped to 1–7 and 21–14 leads. It left the Folsom Field crowd surprised.

The 21-14 advantage was gained by a 15-yard dart from Rams quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi to wide receiver Louis Brown. Just 4:08 was left in the first half. But Brown decided to celebrate by mocking the opposition—its rival of 130 years. He did the ‘Deion Shuffle’, which became big news. He didn’t stop there. He went further.
Brown also mocked Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and imitated his tendency to flash his watch. Add to this, the comments Colorado State’s coach, Jay Norvell, made previously about the Buffs getting unnecessary hype. A lot was on the line for Deion Sanders’ side.
It was a game brimming with bad blood, and the Buffs had to respond to this disrespect. And that’s exactly what they did. The Buffs had the last laugh as they beat Colorado State, 43-35, in double-overtime. However, a player mocking Coach Prime happened back in 2021 as well, when he was with Jackson State.

South Carolina State was the underdog in the Celebration Bowl game against Jackson State. Just two minutes were left in the second quarter when QB Cory Fields Jr. found receiver Saquan Davis for six. Davis then did the Deion Shuffle to mock Sanders. Unfortunately, Sanders’ team could not avenge this as they lost, 31–10.
