Now we all must remember how Florida State Seminoles HC Mike Norvell found himself in the hot water. So much so, that even his buyout figures started to do rounds. However, Norvell is trying to change the narrative little by little in FSU. They are trying to boost their player’s roster by taking a swing at a four-star edge. However, when are things smooth for the Seminoles HC? So, even in this, Sherrone Moore and the Michigan Wolverines are likely to make Norvell’s life even more difficult. Already, there are a lot of things on Norvell’s plate. The same man is now struggling with a seven-figure gamble.
The National Signing Day has come up with some big updates. A majority of the 2025 recruiting class has committed and signed with their next school. However, there are a few key recruits like the four-star edge rusher Zahir Mathis who are yet to commit. The young chap is considered the No. 55 recruit and the No. 4 edge rusher in the Class of 2025 by Rivals. He has been a one-time recruit to the Ohio State Buckeyes before de-committing in November of 2024. The former Buckeyes is using January as one final month to get on the road and see some other top schools. Amidst the multiple visits lined up for him, the first came with Norvell’s program. On the On3 Recruits podcast, analyst Steve Wiltfong shared how it went.

The analyst said, “Well had a fantastic official visit over the weekend talked with this football coach over there Imhotep coach Cyril Woodland and you know coach told me that he sees an opportunity to be an instant impact player.” Why wouldn’t he? After all, the player has 27 scholarship offers thus far under his belt. Even Mathis seems to be very happy with Norvell’s program. He shared, “Florida State is really good for me.” However, that doesn’t mean that Norvell’s program does not have any more threat.
Turns out that Sherrone Moore’s Wolverines will be hosting the uncommitted blue-chipper of the 2025 cycle. As Witfong noted, “If he visits Michigan, it’ll be the last weekend of the process.” In that case, Moore would stand a better chance than Norvell, any day. After all, the Michigan HC has shown his talents as the best recruiter after successfully flipping No.1 recruit Bryce Underwood. If FSU loses to Michigan in the Mathis race, it will be a huge blow for Norvell who is already in choppy waters for taking a big risk.
