Bryce Underwood remains the ultimate crown jewel of Sherrone Moore’s recruiting feats. The Michigan head coach has had enough flakes in a sloppy season. Blame it on the consistent QB woes that made their roster strength as flimsy as you could imagine. Be it Alex Orji, David Warren, or Jack Tuttle, nobody could do justice to the issues. It became quite clear that unless and until the program wouldn’t have brought Bryce Underwood, the nation’s top recruit from LSU Tigers, the QB struggle would persist. It wasn’t a cakewalk as Underwood remained dead committed to the Tigers until the last minute. In-state boosters, fans, and veterans join hands to call a hefty NIL money that the kid couldn’t resist.

But Michigan’s recruiting streak is hungry. They don’t seem to be with Underwood. Months before the fans process the hype around the biggest recruit in Ann Arbor, Moore moves on with another key QB target.

A lump sum of $10.5 million melted Underwood down instantly and earned an official commitment. But debates followed: can he be an immediate contributor to the Wolverines squad? After a handful of days of seasoning up, the Michigan danseur noble Kick-started the practice a few days back. He’s showing early signs of a trailblazer in Ann Arbor but guess what, even if he takes his sweet time to suit up, Moore chalks up his alternative already.

Underwood showcased his skills extensively in the practice. David Warren noted he is enthusiastic about learning anything and everything for the sake of the team and doing better as a part of the collective, but technically he can’t contribute to the team before 2028. In the gap, Michigan aims to fill their room with another prized QB.’‘They are going to shoot their shot, especially with the first guy on our list and that’s Ryder Lions a five-star quarterback out of California now, the interesting thing about Ryder Lions is that Underwood may not have an impact on him,” said an insider EJ Holland.

”He is taking or planning to take a two-year Mission and what that means is since part of the Mormon faith he’ll be, you know, away for two years doing his mission, he will not be on a college football roster so that technically makes him 2028 recruit,” Holland detailed Underwood’s plan of action. He reinforced that the new OC Chip Lindsey has some talks with Lyon. The Wolves made one of the earliest offers to the top overall signal caller in the ’26 class.

It was Kirk Campbell who was in awe of the kid’s spring performance last season, but Lindsey made it even more evident, by initiating contact with the target. He is very fond of Lyon’s films that exude JJ McCarthy-type style of play to some extent. The completion will, however, be tough as USC and Oregon have also been on the line.

Moving ahead, being free of Bryce Underwood’s shadow can be a genuine reason for Lyon to take up the offer. Not everyone gets a chance to headline at Ann Arbor, after all.

Alex Orji, the latest Michigan QB to hit the portal, is the biggest example of the above stance.

Bryce Underwood’s growing influence seemingly eradicates key talent from Michigan

Alex Orji flipped his commitment from Virginia Tech and had a remarkable stint at Michigan. He got to start for the team in the mid-season after David Warren failed to show up the right way, but soon he had to retreat. Despite Michigan’s focused comeback and a strong finish against Alabama, Orji left for the portal. But did you ever wonder why? Well, if you check his recent activity on the Underwood’s social media posts, you might get a clue you are looking for.

Not everyone is Davis Warren who reassured coach Moore of his availability again and again despite knowing the fact that his starting QB spot will be under threat after Underwood steps in. Some QBs couldn’t take the hype and attention the former LSU commit is drawing. Orji seems to be one of them. He is not wrong though. Underwood legit became a flex for Michigan ever since the program laid its eyes on him.

Although he brought a lot of promise to the table, for the rest of the QB room, it can rightfully trigger their insecurity button. Everyone wants to contribute to the team and get the prize. As Underwood posted an IG reel to celebrate his Michigan arrival, the former Wolves commented, ‘God got you’.

Now, the message is free for interpretation. You can take it as a simple wish or a jeer deep down.

However, thankfully, Underwood’s microscope Michigan timeline leaves room empty for Ryder Lyon to join the force. Now, it’s all up to coach Moore’s chad strategy.
