Michigan’s defeat to Texas has raised so many eyebrows among fans and analysts especially when it comes to the offense line. The victory over the ranked 6 teams with a 42-16 score was indicative of several problematic areas that could technically bring about the premature end of Michigan’s title dreams, if not remediated as soon as possible. The game was a pretty good lesson in that yes, while Michigan’s defense is solid, it cannot win out if the offense is subpar. Some of the games are still recent, but the fans as well as the experts are expecting some crucial changes from the offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore.
If Michigan cannot find a going concern on the offense they shall be forced to defend themselves against the opposition till the opposition gets tired and exhaust all its options. This problem requires an urgent solution; otherwise, the team’s position in the Michigan playoffs is in danger.
One of the issues is the deployment of quarterback Tayven Jackson in scoring plays in the game. Fans have started talking about this. “FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE STOP with Orji on 3rd and short if you’re not going to allow him to throw,” wrote Luke D’Mello on X, while talking about how Jackson is unable to throw in these moments, the offense becomes simple and predictable. Moore’s usage of Jackson in this fashion and not allowing him to get any experience throwing the ball is going to be a very long season for Michigan.

Two things.
Michigan has got to find a way to have some sort of sustainable offense otherwise the defense is going to be gassed every game in the second half like you saw vs Texas.

“Get Donovan Edwards in space,” D’Mello said. The confusing campaign of Edwards can certainly be followed and effectively used like the Texans did with their running backs can give a much-needed boost to Michigan’s offense.

Critical areas for Sherrone Moore to address
Head coach Sherrone Moore has a few key areas to address if Michigan wants to bounce back from its struggles against Texas. The most glaring issue? The offense. Michigan’s attack was stagnant, allowing Texas to compress their defense and leave the Wolverines with few options to counter. This lack of offensive diversity not only created immense pressure on the defense but also left Michigan with little control over the game. To turn things around, Moore needs to diversify Michigan’s offensive approach, adjusting their attack based on the game’s flow and making them less predictable.
One specific area for Moore to focus on is how he utilizes quarterback Tayven Jackson, especially in critical third-down situations. Jackson’s strength is his arm, but his inability to run limits his effectiveness, particularly in short-yardage downs. If Moore insists on using Jackson in these scenarios, he needs to let him do what he does best—pass—or get creative with alternative plays to keep the drives alive. This change could help alleviate the strain on Michigan’s defense, giving them longer breaks and maintaining offensive momentum.

And then there’s Donovan Edwards, whose raw talent isn’t being fully maximized. Too often, Edwards is forced to barrel through defenders, when his real strengths lie in his agility and speed in open space. Moore needs to get more creative with Edwards, whether by involving him in the passing game or setting up mismatches with opposing defenses. By unlocking Edwards’ full potential, Michigan can add a new dimension to their offense and relieve some of the pressure on their defense.
If Moore can implement these adjustments, Michigan has a real chance to regain control of their season and shift momentum back in their favor. The key is balance—on both sides of the ball.
