Is Sherrone Moore the right man for Michigan, or is it time for a coaching change?

And the empire has fallen. Despite having a solid season opener game against Fresno State, the undefeated champs of last season have finally crumbled. Some of us saw this coming from miles away. This was Sherrone Moore’s first year as the HC for the Wolverines, and something going wrong was destined. Since the start of this year, Moore has faced nothing but issues. Starting from the NCAA sign-stealing allegations, and then the Wolverines getting snubbed from their 2025 class recruitment rankings. This would probably be the worst start any HC could hope for, and nothing can save Sherrone Moore from the wrath of the fans.

An X account was quite critical, talking about the Wolverines losing to the Longhorns. They wrote on X, on September 8th, “My Michigan fans are gonna hate me for saying this but…I don’t make excuses. If Michigan is void of talent and this is the best we can do.” The account raised a fair point. Games are won through proper recruitment and Moore has failed the fanbase in terms of that. Ever since Jim Harbaugh (former Wolverines HC) and JJ McCarthy left for the NFL, there has been a void growing deep inside Michigan. While Rich Eisen and Pat McAfee had thought that the team would easily manage to pull through, Moore has failed to fill that void left by Harbaugh and McCarthy. People should’ve seen the red flags from the start. Their starting QB was not picked and decided on time. It was quite visible that Moore had to make a hasty decision regarding it. The entire O-line and defense were in shambles as well.

QB Quinn Ewers had the time of his life, slipping through the gaps and pulling in 3 TDs for the Longhorns. If we look at the rushing yards, the Wolverines allowed 143 rushing yards, whereas Texas only allowed 80. We don’t know how worse things can get for Moore further down the schedule, but for now, we can focus on what fans had to say about the entire game against the Longhorns.

Sherrone Moore ain’t staying

One fan directly attacked the entire contract thing that has been going on with Moore. “Sherrone Moore contract is going to be for $10’s of thousands when he finally signs,” they wrote on X. If you didn’t know, Moore is yet to sign a deal with Michigan. While we knew that Moore had a $6 million 5-year contract, USA Today mentioned that all of it is false and Moore has been coaching without a proper contract. With the disaster the Longhorns game was, it looks like Moore will land with a $10 million contract.

Another fan agreed with the initial post that started the entire discussion regarding Moore and his inability to bring in talents for the Wolverines. “I don’t disagree,” the fan noted. It’s not only the 2024 class. The 2025 recruitment has been down as well. We got to know back on August 20th that the Wolverines had fallen to rank 15 on the Top 25 Team Recruiting Ranking. Keeping in mind that this is a 15-0 team, this is bad. Finally, one more fan also agreed with the initial post. “Absolutely agree,” they noted. Let’s hope Moore can redeem himself with the rest of the games on the schedule. If not? Then, folks, the Michigan man is dead.
