Can Shelomi Sanders carve her own path, or will she always be in Coach Prime's shadow?

When Chris Fallica mentioned on the LeBatard Show that Deion Sanders probably has the most pressure on him out of all the coaches, it couldn’t have been further away from the truth. While we all know that this year is the year of redemption for the Buffs, there’s one more thing that not many Coach Prime fans talk about. Shelomi Sanders, Deion’s daughter and the only athlete in the family who’s in basketball. Back in Rockwall High, the young Sanders made her name as a solid sharpshooter who could easily land 3-pointers on the court. These skills eventually opened doors to Jackson State. Doesn’t all of this make you wonder why Deion is rarely seen with his daughter? She is a solid player, so what went wrong?

On Cody Freeman Detail back on August 18th, we find Deion’s daughter Shelomi Sanders and Cody Freeman talking about their training and stuff. However, during the live, a specific comment managed to take away Shelomi’s smile for a split second. “Deion’s daughter,” someone had said. Back in April, Shelomi announced that she was going to transfer out of CU and move to Alabama. While playing with the Buffs, Shelomi recorded around 1.8 minutes over 5 games. “I don’t want to say anything too bad. It just wasn’t good energy,” she said during an interview. Her main gripe was that the camp just couldn’t instill a proper confidence in her and she needed something better. While fans thought that Deion would support her decision, the outcome was very different.

“Was stupid,” was Deion’s first reaction to the entire thing. Shelomi played with Deion back in Jackson State and then went on to follow her father to CU along with her brothers Shilo and Shedeur Sanders. However, Coach Prime was not having it. “Where I come from, historically, kids follow their parents,” he said when he first heard about Shelomi’s decision. But in a series of twists, Shelomi’s biggest supporter ended up being Deion’s ex-wife Pilar Sanders. “Coaches want her, teams want her, and she’s happy,” Pilar had said. She fully supported what Shelomi wanted to do. Now the main question is, did Shelomi manage to accomplish what she had dreamed of?

Back in Boulder, Shelomi was already making a name for herself. She had a shot accuracy rate of 25% from 3-point range. Along with that, she also managed to average around 0.6 rebounds and 0.2 steals. It is also a known fact that she has type 1 diabetes and has never let that stop her from achieving what she wants. When she joined A&M, she already started receiving massive praise from A&M basketball coach Dawn Thornton.

“Shelomi is just what we need on ‘The Hill’,” Thornton mentioned during an interview. The main skill that stood out was Shelomi’s ability to play behind the arc. Also, despite being a big guard, she easily manages to score. “She has great athleticism and will make it very hard for teams to zone us,” Thornton noted. While a part of Deion still isn’t over the decision his daughter took, we can safely say that Shelomi is still doing amazingly.
