The Miami QB, Cam Ward, has been the talk of South Beach during the Hurricanes’ first season. However, following the match against Florida State, it appears that the Heisman candidate does not support Dan Le Batard’s claim that “Cam Ward is the best quarterback this program has ever had.” But, to end the allegations circulating since July 8th, Shedeur Sanders, a Heisman candidate, has performed admirably this season alongside Cam Ward. So, the question still stands, who is in the lead in the Heisman race after week nine?
Cam Ward is ranked fourth, while Shedeur is ranked sixth in the race of Heisman, according to Fansided.com. You may now ask, “Why six?” even though he performed well. Maybe it’s because some throngs of college football fans don’t like him. However, Shedeur had yet another fantastic game on Saturday night as CU trounced Cincinnati 34-23. He went 25-of-30 after 323 yards and 2 touchdowns. He has been whatever you could hope for as a quarterback, with over 2,500 yards and 21 touchdowns.

In contrast, when Miami faced a poor opponent at Florida State, Cam Ward had the chance to make a name for himself as the Heisman favorite. Instead, he showed a bewilderingly subpar performance, which should partly undermine his position as the overwhelming favorite. He was in second place last week, now in 4th. The elite athlete can still perform better, though, as he completed 169 of 246 throws for about 2,500 passing yards and 24 touchdowns.

Now, it’s safe to assume that Cam is ahead of Shedeur in the Heisman race despite his subpar performance in the previous week. However, it remains unclear what the fallout rumor about them was.
The ensuing rumor about Shedeur and Cam Ward
Earlier this July, there was a little back and forth between Shedeur and Cam that got folks talking. It all began when Sanders joined Ward for an exercise session while he was in Miami. Shedeur’s jab at the Miami quarterback for arriving late to the training session sparked a violent argument. Ward soon responded, stating, “Don’t bullsh**ting…I might’ve been the reason we were late, but at least I got better” after a difficult rep. The two quarterbacks may have taken things personally, but they were merely playing about.

However, Kaleb Mathis stepped in to dispel the misunderstanding and explained that it was simply fun banter. In fact, Coach Prime stated that it wasn’t a big problem. But it didn’t stop there. With mysterious IG posts, the two quarterbacks themselves stepped forward. Shedeur tagged the Miami quarterback in a tale he shared of himself and Ward working out together, putting up a united face. Ward even put it up again! The animosity appears to have subsided from the start.
Both quarterbacks are now concentrating on their next tasks, which include winning the Heisman Trophy and being selected first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
