Why is Shedeur Sanders overlooked for the Heisman despite his game-changing performances for the Buffs?

Coach Prime and his team are on the right path. After dealing with significant injuries, key players have returned stronger. The Buffaloes secured their sixth win of the season with a 34-23 victory over Cincinnati, making them bowl-eligible. Yes! After a disappointing 2023, where the Buffs struggled on both sides, this year, the Buffs are not only enjoying every game but keeping their winning streak alive. A key part of this streak? Shedeur Sanders- the leader of the tribe. We have seen numerous occasions fo Shedeur making a difference with his arm. Hail Mary passes, 4th quarter touchdown drives- a bad game for Shedeur is having 250 passing yards and no TDs. But is that being reflected in the odds for individual awards? Not really!

A major reason for Shedeur’s stock not being that high when it comes to things like the Heisman Trophy is that people think that he’s supposed to do what he’s doing. Football inside JD PicKell believes that while Shedeur has been doing great on the field, that is not getting reflected in the Heisman odds. Why?

Let’s hear from PicKell.

What’s your perspective on:

Why is Shedeur Sanders overlooked for the Heisman despite his game-changing performances for the Buffs?

Have an interesting take?

“Sanders probably doesn’t get enough credit either for what he’s doing, and I think it’s very easy to say, Okay, well, they have a pretty pass-happy offense and they have weapons for him, like he’s doing what he’s supposed to do. Is he, though? Because I think the level of consistency he’s playing with needs to be noted. Last night, 25 of 30, over 300 yards yet again, two touchdowns, both to Travis Hunter—like he’s dialed in.”

Just imagine- over 300 yards, you complete 15 out of your first 15 passes, multiple TDs, and still, the coverage is meh! There’s another layer to the pressure on Shedeur.

“And the pressure on him every single week, from a metaphorical standpoint, is massive because, again, I mentioned the balance. Colorado, I believe, is not able to run the football the way that they are if they’re not a threat throwing the football in every single game,” PicKell said.

Highlighting the importance of his role in keeping defenses honest and maintaining balance in the offense, the insider added,

“Now, even in situations where Shedeur Sanders hasn’t had his best day at the office, he’s had over 60% completion percentage. He has been very effective through the air, giving Colorado a chance in nearly every single game. The way that he shows up every single week and delivers, regardless of the opponent and regardless of his protection — and that’s been a trending upward situation as well.”

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Shedeur is the most important player for the Buffs. Yes, Travis is effective on both side of the things, but offensively, there’s no Travis without Shedeur, and every QB can’t present it on a platter to Travis like Shedeur does. That important must be reflected in the Heisman odds as well. Now, let’s see what Prime Time has to say about their Week 9 win.

Coach Prime’s “One Game at a Time” approach keeps Buffs focused

Buffs are now the serious contenders for Big 12! The dynamics of college football are constantly changing, with unranked teams surprising ranked ones each week. Coaches are often blamed for their teams’ struggles, while others receive praise for their successes. Recently, Coach Prime and the

Colorado Buffaloes have been on the right track, highlighting their victory against Cincinnati.

With the changing dynamics, the AP poll results are changing as well. However, Deion Sanders has all together a very different approach to the whole process.

“We don’t even want to be ranked. not thinking about the playoffs right now. We go one game at a time,” Sanders said after the game.“We don’t even want to be ranked. Don’t rank us, please. We don’t like that. We’d rather be at the back, in the dark, just chilling in the cut. We good, we cool, we straight. So don’t feel pressure on the Buffs.”

We cannot forget that the Buffs have lost two games this season. They have lost against Nebraska and Kansas State, which were their strongest opponents. Now, they are bowl-eligible, but the question is, will they make it to the playoffs?
