The 2025 NFL draft doesn’t exactly have a scarcity of quarterbacks. On the contrary, there are plenty of QBs to choose from. Still, the major concern revolves around the ‘weak’ nature of the draft class (in terms of QB talent) as repeatedly pointed out by scouts and analysts. However, since the QB position is extremely important for any team, there are two QBs, Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, who are being touted as top QB picks in the NFL draft. But, now, it looks like there may be a wildcard entry into the 2 man list.

We all know that the majority of the drafts have already touted Cam Ward to be the top-five pick in the upcoming NFL draft. So, there is no uncertainty for the former Miami QB. The major conundrum seems to be building for the former Buffs QB Shedeur Sanders, as Jaxson Dart has been touted to take the coveted place of the QB with a team with which Sanders was already contemplating the future.

Todd McShay, discussing the top QBs in the draft in his podcast, made a case for Jaxson Dart going to the New Orleans Saints instead of Shedeur Sanders as the ninth pick. “Kellen Moore has been an offensive coordinator in the league in three places: Dallas (Cowboys), LA Chargers, and Philly (Eagles). Dak (Prescott), (Justin) Herbert, Jalen (Hurts), in what world he (Kellen Moore) is drafting Shedeur Sanders over Jaxson Dart. He is used to being a bigger, more mobile, stronger-armed quarterback, and those are three qualities that Jaxson Dart has“.

It’s not just Todd who thinks Jaxson will end up with the Saints; ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky also thinks the same. During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, he spoke highly of the QB. “I’m a Jaxson Dart guy… I don’t think he makes it out the top 10. If I were the Raiders, if I’m the Jets, if I were the Saints, I would be very seriously considering drafting him in the top 10,” Dan admitted. He even made a bold statement, claiming, “Jaxson Dart would be neck-and-neck with Shedeur [Sanders] for me.”

Well, certainly, no case can be made for Shedeur Sanders’ rushing prowess since we saw none in either of the Colorado seasons. The player finished with -77 yards in 2023 and then with -50 rushing yards in the 2024 season. Moreover, at 6’2″ and 215 lbs, Shedeur doesn’t have the frame to run those complex RPO routes. The QB’s primary USP is his arm talent and pass mechanics, which makes him one of the most sought-after draft QBs right now (although a case can be made against that too). On the other hand, Jaxson Dart is undoubtedly a whole other type of QB.

Dart finished last season with Ole Miss, racking up more than 4,200 passing yards and close to 500 rushing yards, scoring 3 touchdowns. That tells you the kind of rushing capability the QB had. As Dan also mentioned in the Pat McAfee show, “Dude, at the end of the day, can you see it and can you throw it at that position? He sees it well and he can throw it.” Moreover, in the 2022 and 2023 seasons combined, Dart ran for almost 1,000+ yards and also had good passing stats as he notched up more than 6,300+ yards in both seasons combined. His frame at 6’2″ and 225 lbs may not look physically imposing on the surface. But, the player has incredible athleticism to provide those added rushing abilities Kellen Moore would want in his QB.

Jaxson Dart vs. Shedeur Sanders: Who truly deserves the spotlight in the 2025 NFL draft?

Shedeur Sanders’ New Orleans Saints hype a massive hoax?

We all have read the stories somewhere about Shedeur Sanders going to the NY Giants. The story, however, took a turn when the Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston after free agency. This essentially meant that the chances of the Giants going for a QB in the draft became quite slim. Nevertheless, another story started brewing up for Shedeur Sanders in no time. And that was the New Orleans Saints pursuing the Buffs QB ‘aggressively’. Now, a major revelation has provided gaping holes in the Saints-Shedeur theory.

John Sigler of the Saints Wire wrote a piece around the same theory and termed the hype being created solely by Deion Sanders, with the Saints showing no interest in his son. “There’s been a lot of buzz linking Shedeur Sanders to the New Orleans Saints — and most of it has come from his famous father…Maybe this is all a work. Maybe Deion Sanders is trying to bait the Steelers or another team without a long-term future at QB into trading ahead of the Saints, to make sure Shedeur Sanders ends up with a contender while securing a lucrative contract as a top-10 pick.”

Well, Deion Sanders, when asked about Shedeur’s potential move to the Saints, on Colorado’s pro-day, did say something interesting about it. “I like their colors, I like the city, I like the food, I like the people, I like the possibility”. Sanders remarked about the Saints. However, it can’t be said if Deion Sanders is the sole reason for Shedeur’s speculation about joining the Saints. Whatever may be the case, Shedeur’s draft stock is plummeting quite rapidly, and the next team that would be potentially drafting him would be the Steelers. But, maybe the hype creation could also work in his favor as another team, like the Giants or the Titans, may start looking at him again following the Saints’ interest.
