When it comes to competition within programs, well, you know who leads the race, right? It has to be Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes. After all, in the Heisman race, each program was represented by one player. But the Buffs were special as two players donned the black and gold jerseys. And it looks like one of these Colorado stars is headed to the Heisman finals. Guess who got snubbed in the race? None other than Deion’s son, Shedeur Sanders. However, the Buffs can’t be blamed either. There is no one better than their dual-threat, Travis Hunter, when it comes to the Heisman. Maybe Colorado, too, made the right decision, as the former NFL MVP made his pick.

Well, maybe deep down Shedeur had a premonition of what was going to happen since the Heisman Award is one and they are two people. And that’s when the Buffs QB proved that he has got a big heart when he dropped a big claim. During an interview back in October, Shedeur stated, “I just want Travis to win…Travis is the best player in college football.” However, no matter how big his heart is, he definitely did not expect his program to turn its back on him. But again, when is life less of a surprise? On December 9, the Buffs insider Romi Bean dropped a list on her tweet that read, “2024 Heisman Finalists:”

The names are, “Travis Hunter (Colorado), Ashton Jeanty (Boise State), Cam Ward (Miami), Dillon Gabriel (Oregon).” Not just Bean’s list. Before that, Colorado even made Hunter feel special by getting him featured as the best Heisman contender in the Big Apple! Yes, Deion and Co. highlighted their two-way phenom on a massive billboard in Times Square, New York City. Maybe Shedeur did not expect to hold the top spot, but at least making it to the list would have made the young chap happy.

After all, the place that Hunter has reached today, a lot of it is aided by Shedeur. The Buffs QB threw for 3,926 yards—third-best in college football—and 35 touchdowns. He even owns a 78.2 quarterback rating. But does the decision make Coach Prime feel bad?

We don’t know that yet. But last month he stated, “Shedeur wants to be drafted in a wonderful city. He wants to win out. That’s what he thinks about. He ain’t thinking about no darn Heisman, man.” However, what we know is that Shedeur’s best buddy, Hunter, did feel bad.

Shedeur Sanders fails to earn NFL vet’s trust

What’s your perspective on:

Did Shedeur Sanders deserve a Heisman nod, or did Colorado make the right call with Hunter?

Have an interesting take?

At this point, the Heisman trophy might land in the hands of either Colorado’s two-way phenom Hunter or Broncos RB Ashton Jeanty. Looks like Miaimi QB Cam Ward and Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel are long shots. So, it calls for some celebration for Hunter, right? But the dual-threat is upset not to have found his best buddy, Shedeur, by his side in the Heisman race. So what he did was go scouting for the reason behind the snub.

On his podcast, The Travis Hunter Show, he questioned, “How can you be the top quarterback pick in the NFL draft, and you’re not even considered to be in the Heisman race? How does that even work?” Yes, that’s how the dynamic duo always has been. At first, it was Shedeur who was all ready to give away his prize to Hunter, and now it’s the two-way star whose heart pains to run the race without the Buffs QB by his side. Maybe the Buffs have got some hint as to how the spotlight will be only on Hunter. For instance, the former Washington Redskins RB, Shaun Alexander, is already leaning towards the two-way star.

“Travis plays so many plays. It is hard to even think that a guy can cut off half the field when it comes to passes in the secondary and still be that guy all over the field. But definitely in the red zone, he’s pretty marvelous, man. So I lean more towards Travis,” stated the NFL legend. Even though Hunter’s defense impressed Shaun Alexander, his offense is just as dominant. After all, 92 receptions for 1,152 yards is no joke! On the flip side, no Heisman? No problem—Shedeur Sanders’ NFL stock is skyrocketing.
