Is Shedeur Sanders really Heisman material, or are we overlooking Jaxson Dart and Dillon Gabriel?

If the sun shines on the Colorado Buffaloes, then it must bid its adieu as well! After a spectacular start to the season with a win over the North Dakota State Bisons, Shedeur Sanders was on the receiving end of major props from all over the community. Additionally, he is currently within the top 10 players of Week 1, as released by PFF and gaining more and more acclaim every day. But now it looks like the names of Jaxson Dart and Dillon Gabriel will pop his bubble as the supposed best QB in the 2024 class with their recently released Heisman odds.

Jaxson Dart and the Ole Miss Rebels sent tremors down the world of college football when they decimated the Furman Paladins by a score of 76-0, taking the QB’s reputation to never-seen-before heights. With such a staggering win, it is apparent that Shedeur has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to take home the Heisman Trophy.

On 3rd September, CBS Sports CFB released their Heisman Trophy Odds after Week 1 and saw Dillon Garbiel of the Oregon Ducks at the forefront with a +850 score, followed by the same number for Jaxson Dart. While earlier Shedeur was resting comfortably in the top 10 of all the lists, his teammate Travis Hunter seems to have replaced him. Hunter is at the number 9th position with +2500 odds.

Jaxson Dart and Dillon Gabriel both witnessed a huge rise in their Heisman odds, especially after their match-winning performances. Whereas as for Shedeur Sanders, his odds saw a steep drop from +2200 to +3500, pitting him miles behind his rivals for this season. With that being said, let’s take a look at what Dart had to say about being in the lead for the Heisman race and whether this sort of statistic holds a lot of value to him.

The 76-0 is an astonishing score for any team to open their season with, but that’s the magic of college football and the unpredictability that comes along with it. Looking at Jaxson Dart’s scores, he threw out a total of 418 yards and finished 5 touchdowns, which is beyond impressive. But as per the QB’s recent comments about being at the top of the Heisman Odds leaderboard, he still aims for the team’s glory. Hopefully, the individual accolades will come along with it.

Jaxson Dart emphasized how these records only become prominent on social media more so than the gridiron and said, “It’s kind of natural just to see it, but I feel like the people in my corner have been able to hold me to a standard of trying to do all I can to put our team in the best situation. That’s always been my mindset from the moment I got here because I know all that stuff will come with it.” Thus, the QB will focus on the Week 2 game against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and will want to continue his streak of success with an even bigger score on the sheet, if that’s even possible.
