“Overrated”. That is what most people think Shedeur Sanders is. Now, we won’t argue with all that. We understand that this guy has some attitude problems, flexes a lot, and was the most sacked QB back in the 2023 season. However, you cannot deny that Shedeur has pulled some plays that most QBs can only dream of. When the Buffs went against Baylor, almost all hope was lost in the final quarter of the game. So, Shedeur Sanders did something that only Shedeur Sanders can do, and we witnessed one of the best Hail Mary moments in the current CFB season.

However, looks like Travis Hunter is going to take away all the spotlight. Scott Procter took to X on September 24th to talk about what UCF HC Gus Malzahn had to say about Hunter. “He’s the best player on the film in all four games & it’s not even close,” Malzahn mentioned during the pregame press conference. What Hunter has managed to pull off while playing that many snaps during a game is something that shocked Malzahn.

See, we won’t lie. When the game went into overtime, and the Buffs were standing at 38-31, some of us did think that they would lose out on this, as the Bears had the football in their hands during their final push into the endzone. However, as Bears’s Dominic Richardson powered onward, nearly scoring, Hunter jumped in to force a game-winning fumble. This allowed the Buffs to grab the win against Baylor during overtime.

But you gotta be lying to yourself if you say that Hunter was the only one who saved the day. If Shedeur had failed to connect with the 43-yard Hail Mary to LaJohntay Wester with 2 seconds left on the clock, the game was over with 31-24 on the scoreboard. It was Shedeur who managed to drag the game into overtime, and you gotta cut him some slack for it. While Will Sheppard did miss out on the first pass that Shedeur threw, Wester did not disappoint.

Hunter is somewhat of a prodigy already. We already saw him break a 26-year-old record during the Rocky Mountain Showdown. This guy managed to land 2 touchdowns and land 13 catches. If that wasn’t enough, he also managed to grab 100 yards and an amazing defensive interception when he caught the pass from Rams QB and ran the football up by 38 yards. And now, with what he pulled against the Bears, it feels like Colorado is finally back on track, and Coach Prime can rest in peace. However, this coming weekend, the Buffs will be going up against UCF, so let’s check out some important takeaways.

Deion Sanders and his boys open Big 12 in style

Robert Livingstone and the Colorado defense. These 2 are not getting enough attention. Buffs were a team that allowed around 35 points during their first 4 games back in the 2023 season. Now, under Livingstone and his guidance, the defense has changed drastically. Allowing barely 30 points, the Buffs’ defenses rank next to someone like the Huskers.

Against Baylor, the defense managed to force a punt and a turnover during 6-7 possessions. As the game hit the final seconds, the defense also managed to lock out the Bears’ offense and allowed the boys to enter overtime. Credit where credit is due. While the O-line could still be better, the D-line has not been disappointing at all.

However, the special teams could be much better. Buffs allowed a 54-yard punt return that set up a field goal. If that wasn’t enough, there was also another 100-yard kick return for a TD as well. Leveraging this, the Bears grabbed a solid field position. This is something that still has the scope to improve. While we don’t know if the offensive line will disappoint us against UCF, what we can see is that this team is doing much better than what they did back in 2023.
