Are NIL deals a blessing or a curse for young athletes trying to make it big?

Shedeur Sanders is the first-ever college football player who signed a deal with Nike last month. His NIL valuation spiked up to a whopping $5.8 million after he shook hands with the global brand. Naturally, his coach and father, Deion Sanders, must be elated that his son is already a millionaire, thanks to the NIL landscape. However, that is not the case.

As per a new clip, Deion Sanders is not that big of a fan of the NIL deals. In a passionate speech to his players, Deion highlighted how the future is not a settled thing for most players on his roster.

Let’s just say 22 or 23. You’re 23 years old and you’re going back to stay with your mom and dad? It is what it will be. Where are you going? No more checks are coming in! This is over! ain’t a whole collective. It’s over. What are you gonna do? Where are you going?

While the world of college football may be glittery, it doesn’t mean that it is going to last for most players. “What’s the plan? You had an opportunity, then what going to happen? Just like he said, you’re going to try to work your butt off and get into one of those leagues, right? But you worked your butt out for getting into that league, but you won’t be working your butt again,” he said. Well, Sanders here raised a serious question: what happens after these young guys complete their college? They won’t be having any deals after it and if they aim to play in the NFL they have to focus on the game rather than just showing off with those sparkling deals.

Moreover, Deion Sanders reflected his true emotions and expressed what he thinks about NIL. “You ain’t giving us anything back. That’s why I love the NIL but I hate it at the same time because we should be able to get that money and you’re doing anything with it now if balling, oh!”

That is a life lesson from Coach Prime! He has seen things in life, and if young athletes want to succeed in their lives, they must listen to the old man! The riches won’t last, and only one’s hard work will open the gates to future success. What does Shedeur think about NIL?

Have an interesting take?

Sanders’ NIL valuation gives him the liberty to live a lavish lifestyle and there are instances he doesn’t hold back to show it off. You must be aware of how many high-end flashy things he owns. Well, Shedeur has a Rolls Royce Cullinan at $350,0000. To that, he also owns a Mercedes-Maybach, which costs around $200,000. These are only a few examples.

A few weeks ago, Shedeur Sanders, along with Shilo, went to the Outta Pocket podcast, chatting with former NFL player Robert Griffin III. There, he talked about the pros and cons coming with the NIL deals. And when Griffin asked about if he shows up at the Buffs in his rolls and if he likes NIL or not.

To that, Shedeur replied, “I definitely love NIL, but there are pros and cons to it though. You got to, like, don’t feel like you made it already. When you want to get whatever you want any time in life, then there’s like a lot of things that don’t interest you anymore.”

He pointed out that financial literacy is important, the same thing Deion Sanders also discussed. Moving forward, Shedeur also brought up the issue of tax in Nil deals. Apart from that, Shedeur Sanders, along with Heisman candidate Travis Hunter, are ready to roll against Arizona in their upcoming college football game.
