How does an injured Ewers rank above Sanders, who's been lighting up the field this season?

Football is an outstanding game and in the world of college football, everyone seems to have their favorite kind of quarterback. This year has seen Shedeur Sanders step up his game and play and Colorado fans are excited. But not everyone’s feeling it—especially Barstool Sports’ Brandon Walker.

He placed Sanders third on his top 10 QBs for the year 2024. But here’s the kicker: the same Walker ranked Quinn Ewers at No. 2. Yes indeed, even Ewers who is out of contention through injury ranked higher than Sanders.

So, what gives? Ewers, who was injured in the game against UTSA, where the Texas team won 56-7, has more or less performed well before his injury – 691 yards, 8 touchdowns, and a QBR of 85.0. Sanders has been balling out as he sits on 1,630 yards, 14 touchdowns, and a QBR of 67.3. By all accounts, Sanders should be leading Walker, but Walker’s choice left many scratching their heads.

Brandon Walker’s ranking has been made subject to controversy. Lining up Ewers as a starter ahead of Sanders, who has been playing and even being productive, is something that several fans feel is a misstep. Especially knowing that before he was injured, Ewers was the starting quarterback, and now Arch Manning stepped in for Texas and played in a win over Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State. Ewers is a beast, no doubt, but the idea of rating an injured player with someone who is on fire out there is another thing. It’s a tough sell.

Shedeur Sanders had no problem with the ranking in question, really? He jumped on X and, after going through the list, said, “Send Brandon a DR-G test“, It was just for laughs, but you can bet Sanders was feeling his wounds. And to be perfectly frank, you can’t argue with him. The guy has been performing on stage week in and week out, and then there are people ranked higher than him who cannot even perform due to an injury.

What’s your perspective on:

How does an injured Ewers rank above Sanders, who's been lighting up the field this season?

Have an interesting take?

What’s the real story behind the rankings?

Colorado fans were just as vocal. Some questioned the decision that indicated that Sanders has been under so much pressure this season due to the poor performance of the team’s offensive line, but still, he scores. While doing so, Ewers had the privilege of having a strong Texas team that magnified his stats.

And how could Walker have ranked Ewers higher than Sanders? Maybe that’s why it is a combination of ability and team performance. Texas is one of the best teams in the nation right now and Ewers is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in college football when he is on the field. Walker may regard Ewers as the grittier prospect with better potential than Sanders, given Sanders’ performance issues are a result of CU’s poor O-line.

However, when it comes to figures, and simultaneously at this given moment, Sanders is scoring higher. Yeah, his QBR might be lower than Ewers, but Sanders has more touchdowns and more yards than Quinn. So, if we speak about the performance from the perspective of 2024, Sanders should probably receive the call at the expense of Ewers.

At least, it is in only one analyst’s opinion. Walker’s rankings are meant to spark debate, and he’s done just that. You may not always support his opinions but he has earned attention for what he has done to the college football scene.
