With the NFL Draft 2025 still months away, the Sanders family is the talk of the town. Shedeur Sanders is projected to be a top pick come April and Shilo is also gearing up for the draft. However, a lot of attention has also been paid to their father, Deion Sanders. In the last few months, Coach Prime has turned heads with his insistence that he won’t let his sons be drafted by a few select teams and recently left the door ajar for a coaching role in the NFL, despite reiterating on numerous occasions that his future lies in Colorado.
It might be safe to say that Deion Sanders’s name has made more noise in the last few weeks, than that of his son, Shedeur, who is considered a top NFL prospect. With the head coach vacancy in Dallas, the chatter has gotten louder around Deion Sanders ditching college football for a shot at reviving the ailing Cowboys. Many big names such as Michael Irvin and Nick Saban have backed Coach Prime for the Dallas hot seat, but what does Shedeur think about his father following him to the NFL?
The topic of Deion Sanders going to the Dallas Cowboys made its way on the new episode of 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders on Tuesday. Unlike his father, Shedeur has remained nonchalant over his NFL future. A couple of weeks ago, while talking about where he would end up, he said, “Whatever happens, happens. I know at the end of the day, God gonna put me on the right team.” He seems to have a similar attitude when it comes to the news of his father possibly entering the NFL coaching fray.

When he was asked about his dad’s chances of coaching the Cowboys, he said, “It’s a decision on him and him. It’s not really up to me. It’s not really. I don’t really have a say so -in anything at all. Like I’m coming to the league. I don’t really have too much to say so of whatever. I’m just thankful of whatever situation that comes.” These comments do leave a lot of room for speculation.
Despite, Deion Sanders’s insistence that he has “every intention, every plan in the world to be coaching for the Colorado Buffs from here on,” the rumor mill hasn’t stopped churning about his future in Boulder. Sanders himself added fuel to speculations following his GMA3: What You Need to Know.
Speaking on the show, he talked about the only scenario that would lead him to consider coaching in the NFL. “The only way I would consider it is to coach my sons,” he said. Well, that’s all some fans needed to link him with the Cowboys and given his relationship with Jerry Jones, the rumors are growing stronger by the day. If Jones wants Sanders to lead the Cowboys next season, he will have to rely on a hope and a prayer, since the Buffs HC won’t go anywhere where he cannot coach his sons.
Let’s look at how this plays out in the real-world scenario. A team getting both Shilo and Shedeur will be tricky in itself. Moreover, the Cowboys have the 12th overall pick in the draft and would likely have to trade up to secure Shedeur as their quarterback. But it is difficult to imagine a franchise picking a quarterback of the future in Shedeur and then trading him away.
Another unlikely situation is that the Cowboys have to hope that none of the teams ahead of them pick Shedeur, which also depends on teams who are in search of a QB. Right now, Shedeur is slated as a top-5 pick by many analysts and mock drafts. In the recently concluded CFB season, Shedeur finished with over 4,000 yards passing for the Buffaloes with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, hence it is difficult to see a QB-needy team letting go of the chance to pick him.
But if that happens, it would be a little disappointing for Shedeur, not only seeing his draft number drop but also due to a very personal reason.

Deion Sander revealed his son’s inner motivation ahead of the draft. He told the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, “He has this quiet competition going on. His goal was to be drafted higher than me, and he’s going to eclipse that. I was the fifth pick. Yeah, he’s going before five.”
That’s the problem with his possibility of joining the Cowboys. Deion Sanders was drafted fifth overall in the 1989 NFL Draft and Shedeur at this rate at least looks likely to surpass him, unless the Cowboys pick him up.
Meanwhile, Deion Sanders received the stamp of approval from Michael Irvin, who strongly urged Jones to sign the Buffs HC. College football legend Nick Saban also threw support behind Coach Prime.
When asked about his own prospects of returning to the NFL, Saban said Deion Sanders should be the next Cowboys HC. “I want him to get that job. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Deion Sanders. First, he’s a great person, and he’s done a great job of marketing the program to create a lot of national interest,” Saban said to “The Pivot podcast.”
Again a lot of it could depend on where Shedeur Sanders ends up. It appears likely that one of the top four or five draft teams will snap him up, but which team has the best chance?

Where will Shedeur Sanders land in the 2025 NFL draft?
This year, the three NFL teams with the top 3 picks—Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants—will be part of the East-West Shrine Bowl. This will give them a chance to assess the top college football prospects before the draft in April. The Titans have shown huge interest in Shedeur Sanders, and they’re taking strategic steps by appointing WR coach Payton McCollum to coach QBs.
Similarly, both the Browns and the Giants are in search of a signal caller who can make an impact in 2025. He’s entering the draft in close competition with Miami’s Cam Ward. Even the Las Vegas Raiders, who hold the No. 4 overall pick, could be in the mix with the latest developments regarding their GM.
