Is Bill Belichick's strategy of eyeing non-QB talent a genius move or a recipe for disaster?

The top 2 QBs in the 2024 class will need to be the top draft picks next year to favor the Patriots’ hand. If you’re a college football fan in the slightest, then the names of Shedeur Sanders and Carson Beck won’t be lost on you. The horn of the Buffaloes, and the bark of the Bulldogs, this is Shedeur and Carson respectively, the quarterbacks who are touted to have exceptional seasons this year.

ESPN’s Football Power Index used thousands of simulations to predict the outcomes of the 2024 season. The list churned out the names of Carson Beck and Shedeur Sanders occupying the first and the second spot, respectively. The New York Giants would pick Carson while the Las Vegas Raiders take the Colorado QB. Though the mock draft is a bit too wishful, it is evident who the top QBs from this year are going to be. And if it does end up going this way, the Patriots fans will be really happy.

The New England Patriots picked Drake Maye of the North Carolina Tar Heels this year with their 3rd pick. As such, getting another star QB wouldn’t make too much sense since they already have a youngster from college already. If Shedeur and Carson do end up at the top of the board, this would mean that the 3rd spot goes to a non-quarterback player, which is what the former home of Tom Brady will want.

As per a tweet from a Patriots fan, supposedly the community should be rooting for both the QBs since this would lead to the Draft going in their favor. The tweet read, “If you’re a Patriots fan, you should be cheering for Shedeur Sanders, Carson Beck, and any other QB to ball out this year. The higher they get drafted the better non-QB player we get.” Additionally, the tweet has since been viewed over 17,000 times, which means that it has struck a chord with the fans. With that being said, let’s take a look at the deal that was made between the Atlanta Falcons and the Patriots for the 2025 NFL Draft, which is set to turn the tide around for Jerod Mayo’s team.

Have an interesting take?

On 13th August, it was announced that the Falcons gave away their 3rd-round pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for their linebacker, Matthew Judon. Though Judon was not happy about the trade himself and tweeted, “Anyone ever fail a physical because of a broken heart?,” this is how it works in the NFL, and this time, it was the LB who had to face the brunt of it all. But how will this addition help the Atlanta Falcons?

The Falcons believe they can make waves in the NFL this season by bringing on Judon to the team. The Patriot-turned-Falcon is a 4-time Pro Bowler with over 66 career sacks. On the other hand, Mayo’s team isn’t necessarily going for the Super Bowl with this trade but rather rebuilding for the future, since Bill Belichick’s exit left a wake of chaos behind. Now, it’s in Jerod’s hands to bring in as much talent as possible and develop the squad to its fullest.
